Text in emails duplicates itself

Hi,

I have a very annoying and weird problem with my Blackberry.

I got my new Curve 9360 last week and set up my 2 hotmail emails on it. I used to have an old Curve before and used the same emails. When I started using the emails I realized that when I reply from my Blackberry device the email content duplicates itself so the person on the other end receives the original content multiplied by 2. So for example if I reply with Good, thanks the handset really sends Good, thanksGood, thanks </div>. Would you know how to fix it?

I have tried everything - removed and added back my email accounts, wiped all the data and installed everything back again, deleted my blackberry ID and created a new one and even exchanged the blackberry device itself for a new one - and it's still the same!

Please help because otherwise this is a great phone and I really would like to keep it :smileysad:

Hi platomey

Thank you for your post and a very warm welcome to the eForum from myself and the team.:smileyhappy:

This is the first time I have come across this issue and I have been unable to recreate this here in the office however as you mention this has happened on two different devices it doesn't sound like the phone.

Please could you ensure that you are using the latest software for your device.

After doing some research I found a similar article that affected Gmail accounts, please could you try the below method and let me know how you get on.

Open up the "Settings" tab within your Hotmail account. Enable "IMAP" under the "Forwarding" section. After completing this process, you will need to reintegrate your Hotmail account with your BlackBerry.

Many Thanks

Re: Text in emails duplicates itself

I have the same problem, I tried going into the hotmail settings but there is no Imap option, what now? This is a vodafone problem, is the only solution to transfer to another provider?

Actually, Blackberry email has very little to do with Vodafone.

Without being able to recreate the problem, the solution offered above sounds the best shot.  The fault is, more than likely, between Blackberry & Hotmail (or whichever service provider is being used) & may be an IMAP/POP3 settings conflict or even down to an issue with plain text / html emails.  It would have been nice if OP had said whether her/his fault was rectified or not.

rh84 ... to check whether it's the phone or the email provider at fault, try creating a temporary mobileemail.vodafone.net address from your BB?  Does this address also duplicate text?

Re: Text in emails duplicates itself

I have this problem too, ever since i upgraded from a Curve 8520. It seems to be a problem with Vodafone. Ive posted on the Blackberry forums, and the only other people to say they had the problem too were Vodafone customers, one of which wasn't a UK Vodafone customer, but Danish. It only happens with Hotmail accounts, of which i have 2 set up on my phone, and 2 other accounts that have no problems at all. I never had the problem on my 8520, so it's not a Blackberry problem. It's something Vodafone have done to their release of the firmware in Blackberry 7.

Re: Text in emails duplicates itself

Vodafone don't write the software RIM does. It is slightly cutomised for each carrier but this would not relate to email. The issue has to be a RIM issue and/or a Microsoft issue if Hotmail is part of the problem.

Re: Text in emails duplicates itself

If it were a RIM issue, then why is it that only Vodafone customers have the problem?

Re: Text in emails duplicates itself

How do you know that it is only Vodafone customers that have this issue?

It clearly isnt a common issue as there are very few threads on any of the discussion boards about this. Good luck with it whatever it is.

The fault is, more than likely, between Blackberry & Hotmail (or whichever service provider is being used) & may be an IMAP/POP3 settings conflict or even down to an issue with plain text / html emails.

Kkthnx ... is the duplicated text displayed on your BB (after sending)?  Or is it only the recipient that sees the duplication?

While I'm pretty sure this is a Hotmail/RIM problem, I can't believe there are only 3 people in the world using Hotmail on a BB!

My suspicion is that it's something to do with the difference between text only & html emails - the BB sends messages as encoded text (if you ever view the message source, it's all garbage but it's plain text - no markup).  Most PCs & webmail systems are set to send messages as html by default.  An html message source contains two versions of the message - one in plain text and a second with html headers.

Perhaps the fault is being generated by Hotmail as it tries to convert the encoded plain text email to an html one.

Convoluted perhaps (and I have no idea how to fix as I don't use Hotmail) ... but the text is being duplicated somewhere and, if it's not the phone that's doing it, it has to be one of the servers the message is passing through.

Re: Text in emails duplicates itself

Hi,

I have a Curve 9360 and my supplier is O2.  I'm having the exact same problem when sending email from both of my hotmail accounts.

I can't even find where "Settings" are under the hotmail account and cannot find IMAP anywhere.

It doesn't bother me so much, but my friends and colleagues are getting a bit sick of it!

Hi there Elrowien,

Many thanks for your post.

If the advice already in this thread hasn't helped then I'm afraid you will need to speak with your service provider for more assistance.

Sorry,

Lee
