I've got one but it doesn't work, in that it can never get a connection.

Twitter Application For The Storm

Hi Jute

Thanks for the post. :)

I assume everything else is working on your Storm? Email/Internet etc? If this is the case I have had an application suggested to me that Jon_Vodafone uses, it's called 'Twitterberry'

Give it a go and let us know how you get on :)

Cheers

Wayne

Twitter Application For The Storm

I've tried both twitter options - tinytwitter and twitterberry - but I've not been able to actually do anything with either of them :(

Twitter Application For The Storm

Just been to the site again and TwitterBerry is listed as being compatible with the Storm. Will try installing it again to see if I can get it to work.

Anyone have it up and running properly that can advise on the settings you're using to ensure that's not where my problems are?

thanks,

James

I have Twitterberry and it is this that does not work, seems OK but when you click 'test connection' it always comes up with an error. When I tried to post an update yesterday it did say successful, but when I looked again there was nothing there.

Twitter Application For The Storm

Hi guys,

To overcome the connection error, try the following for me.

Go to Options > Advanced Options > TCP

Put in the following settings:

APN: internet
Username: web
Password: web

Save these, and then re-test the TwitterBerry connection. It should now be ok. Well, at least, it works fine for me! :P

Had those settings already (for something else, which it did make a difference for). Still get the error:

Could not contact Twitter. Try another connection method.

Have tried using all connection methods and get same error each time. As Jute said though, try to post an update and it tells you its successful, but if you look online then you can see that it hasn't actually done anything.

Wasn't sure if it was the permission settings for the application? Or if it's just another case of an application working for some storms but not for all :( (which will all be sorted when the app store arrives!)

Hi

I get the exact same message and errors as you when I try and test the connection.

Interestingly the only area that seems to work is if you view the 'Public Timeline' from the menu. All other options do not work though. Guess it must be the application itself. I have emailed them regarding this but haven't heard back yet.

Jon_Vodafone - On a second point as I am completely clueless about these things. Changing the APN settings like this won't have any comeback on how the blackberry connects to the internet and costs of doing so will it? They seem a lot like old WAP settings. This won't cause it to access online information (either using Twitterberry or anything else) in a different way that is outside our monthly blackberry useage at extra cost will it?

Quick update.

Now got this working ok on the storm. If you follow the above advice re APN settings. I then reinstalled the app and tried BIBS under connnection mode and all is working ok this time!

Hope it works ok for you guys.

Still not sure if this is running up an extra cost connecting like this if someone can please explain? Never quite got my head around the connections on a blackberry and if it is all covered in the monthly plan?

Likewise, if someone can confirm please. I will give this a go in a bit.

Twitter Application For The Storm

Hi Everyone

I'm a twitter addict so I'm glad to see most people are now getting it working. If anyone is still having problems, follow Jon_Vodafones and crymealivers advice and I'm sure you'll be up and running in no time at all.

In regards to questions of cost, the 'internet' APN is used whenever the BlackBerry surfs the internet normally, so there wouldn't be any extra charges compared to if you visited a website. Most BlackBerry tariffs will include free internet browsing but you can register and check your online account to check your tariff to make sure it's included.

I'm glad I could clear that up, see you all around the forum and possibly twitter!

Cheers

Jay :)

...well, after confirming the settings Jon advised (which I had already got), I reinstalled TwitterBerry, then did a battery pull, and it does now appear to be working.

Thanks for the help.

I feel such a slacker, I just access twitter through the web browser and update there as that seems to work fine

I was doing that for a while until I started to miss having immediate updates (I prefer to waste time throughout the day rather than waiting until I'm not busy :)). My BB is locked down and won't let me install any 3rd party apps, so I use sms to tweet and put together a quick script on my webserver that fetches any new tweets every 5 minutes and emails them to me :).
