Ubersocial for BlackBerry

I don't have any Packet Data on my phone so at the moment, I have set up my BlackBerry connection settings so that unless WiFi is switched on or available to me, I can't connect to any Internet services at all, not even through my mobile internet. This means that when there is no WiFi connection on my phone, I can't browse the Internet or use any applications such as Facebook or Twitter for BlackBerry. However, UberSocial for BlackBerry still works, even when WiFi is switched off. Is this because it has somehow managed to connect through my mobile internet instead of WiFi, in which case, it will cost me? Or is it because UberSocial doesn't require any Internet connection in order to load and refresh itself?

Re: Ubersocial for BlackBerry

Hi jil2828,

Many thanks for your post here.

Basically as the mobile internet has been disabled on your handset it means that the app should not be able to connect to the internet via the mobile connection and instead will only update when connecting to WIFI.

However, if it is managing to update and connect to the mobile internet connection (APN) and you don’t have a data bundle on your account then you would be charged for this connection.

To be honest I would recommend looking at getting a data bundle added to your account if you don’t have one as the benefits of this, especially for Blackberry users would be great and it would mean that you could use the handset to its full potential when you were out and about.

If you would like to look at the data bundle option, please let me know.

Re: Ubersocial for BlackBerry

Hi, thanks for your reply. The problem is though, I've tried turning both the mobile Internet off and the WiFi off as well at the same time. This means that everything has been disconnected, and so nothing should work. However, UbserSocial carries on working like normal, despite everything being switched off. So I don't understand how it could have connected through either WiFi or mobile internet if they have both been turned off together?

Re: Ubersocial for BlackBerry

Also, another problem I'm having is with the actual mobile internet itself. Is there any way you can turn mobile internet OFF so I don't keep getting charged for being on it? I've already changed the Browser to HotSpot, meaning that it will only connect through WiFi. However, I keep getting charged for other services, which seem to connect automatically to my mobile internet whenever my WiFi is unavailable.

I've gone onto Manage Connections > Mobile Network Options >  Data Services OFF, but the problem with this is that it switches off WiFi as well, which is not what I want.

I've also gone onto Manage Connections, and unchecked the Mobile Network box, however, this means that the entire network is cut off, meaning I can't make or receive any calls or texts.

Basically, what I want is:

NETWORK = ON

WIFI = ON

DATA = OFF

Is there a way to make this possible?

Hi jli2828,

Many thanks for getting back to me.

I must admit that this is strange however there is one other way to stop any data connection through mobile internet which is by baring the facility on your account however if we do this it will also stop you from being able to use picture messages.

If you would like us to do this for you or even look at possibly adding a data bundle to the account simply reply to the email that I have sent you with your details and one of our team will be able to sort this out for you.
