Upgrade from Bold 9780 to ???

I will soon be due an upgrade form the BB 9780. This is my 1st BB and I love it to bits. I am not a touchscreen person so am wondering what the latest version of Blackberry Bold is like given that it now has QWERTY and Touch Screen options? I have read that the battery life is not as good as the 9780.
Has anyone upgraded from the 9780 to the 9900 (if that is the latest Bold?) and if so what are your thoughts please?
Thanks
Wyn

Hi wynmorgan.
I guess the direct upgrade would be the 9790 - similar spec to the 9780 but slimmer & lighter.
The size of the 9900, for me, took some getting used to. Although it's much slimmer than the old Curve I was used to, it's wider & taller by about 1/4" (= 6mm) ... doesn't sound much, but it feels a handful to begin with.
Both the 9790 & the 9900 have touchscreens. I was rather anti-touch too and still prefer to scroll, etc. with the touchpad but it is very useful at times - a swipe between pictures, emails, etc. & pinch to zoom.
The 9790 screen is the same resolution (480*360) as the 9780 but the 9900 has a larger screen (640*480) with around 10% higher pixel depth. The clarity of the 9900 screen is nothing short of beautiful!
The battery of the 9900 is too small ... there's no way around it. Faster processor, larger screen with touch & higher definition and RIM opt for a smaller battery in order to make the 9900 the thinnest phone in their range.
(Marketing over-riding engineering, me thinks?)
Other things being equal, you will clearly not get the same life from the 9790/9900's 1230mAh battery than you are getting from the 9780's 1500mAh.
Having said that, OS7.1 is considerably better than 7.0. I can make three days between charges but there does seem to be a variation between one phone/battery & another - there are some on here that are still struggling to make a day. As with any phone, the battery life depends heavily on how you use it.
If you are dead-set against a touchscreen - another option would be the Curve 9360, which is a lovely phone. It's very slim & light with decent battery life (even on a 1000mAh).
Hope this helps.

I've recently tested the Curve 9630, Touch 9860, Bold 9900 and Bold 9790 and opted for the Touch. Full screen is a vast improvement but the touch screen is so much better. Yes you can get away with it but once you've got it, it makes using the handset so much easier especially with one hand.
Battery life has certainly suffered in the newer devices but the Touch and Bold were much better than the Curve - battery life was terrible and IMHO a more tacky device with the keyboard not as plush or usable at the others. The 9900 was too big for me so that was an instant no!

I would be grateful if there is any update on this topic now that the 7.1 update has been issued (and maybe more!). I have been using the 9780 for nearly 2 years and am overdue an upgrade. I am a committed Blackberry user so wish to look at the 9790 (9900 too big). Could someone please let me know the latest comparison on the 9780 as far as battery life goes please.

I now read that the BB 10 is due out in Qtr 1 next year but that is no more than an iPhone with a RIM name. When will RIM realise that those of us that want a Blackberry want it for what it has not what the iPhone has. If I want a touchscreen phone I would get the iPhone like the wife.
