What if...

So, the news today is that RIM are in serious trouble and plan to concentrate on business customers only.
My question is, what happens if they stop supporting non-business customers like me, who are on a two-year Blackberry contract?
What if I suddenly can't get BIS services or, even worse, what if RIM go under completely? What is the legal position? will I be stuck with a phone I can't use until my contract ends?
Thanks,
Revodna

Over the last couple of years there have been numerous reports of imminent doom for RIM/Blackberry. They still have a sizeable share in the smartphone market & a good reputation for their products. Yes, they have had plenty of well-publicised problems/mistakes but, as far as I can tell, the reports of a pullout from consumer markets is a massive over-reaction by new outlets infatuated by Apple & desperate for RIM to fail.
From Crackberry & CIO ...
The reaction from RIM on the matter was on point, as noted by Patrick Spence, RIM's Managing Director of Global and Regional Marketing via his Twitter account:
"We remain committed to all of our Customers (consumer & enterprise) and are enhancing our support/solutions for enterprise."
As for the legal postion in a 'what-if' scenario ... your agreement/contract is with Vodafone. It would be up to Vodafone to work out a remedy.

Hi revodna,
In short, RIM aren't stopping BlackBerry consumer services or devices, so there's no need to worry at all.
There's a statement from them here.
Thanks,
Tom
