Why Blackberry?

Hello,

I am getting an early upgrade and I was seriously considering the Xperia Arc, but due to my current phone being simply inoperable and the Arc's short availability, I was considering getting a Blackberry (maybe Torch), since all my friends have Blackberrys and they seem pretty pleased with them.

But when I think Blackberry, I think business. So what exactly does Blackberry have to offer to a normal user? The most used function for my friends is probably BBM and Facebook, but I'm tempted towards the Arc because Android has so much more apps and possibilities available..

Re: Why Blackberry?

Hi Alex_Ma

hhhhmmmm where to start..... while the Arc on paper looks a really nice device i would give any Sony Ericsson device at least 3 months before buying as they have had some major software issue with a number of devices and i mean more than the average new handset releases.

Until the storm was released a few years ago BB was really a business device but still adopted by consumers for easy texting and BBM.

The Torch was the first real prosumer device launched as it offers best of both worlds i.e. full QWERTY keyboard and full touch screen...

If it was my money and i had friends already using BBM i would go with a BB without thinking.

Any questions give me a shout

Re: Why Blackberry?

Pretty much RIM is going forward with technology where as the rest are not able.

Recently announced at the Blackberry World Conference in Orlando, RIM have went into partnership with Microsoft and their Cloud technology + they have introduced other additions such as NFC (think thats correct) where you can now have your mobile act as the credit card that you possess.

amongst that it was highlighted that Apple have a very limited in which they can expand on what the iPhone does.
Which i suspect the reason for not releasing the iPhone 5 because there is nothing new to it besides the possibility of a dual core processor which even on current devices is way too much but is always good xD

now blackberry is both consumer and business like it appeals to all.
RIIM made the mistake launching payg based on the curve 8520 and 9300. the devices are horrible.

but with the hardware advances and the new technology such as opengl support and rim dubbed "Liquid Graphics" the new range of blackberry is where to go.
Storm 9500 - Dec 08 - Oct 09 || Storm 9520 - Oct 09 - July 10
Bold 9700 - July 10 - Sept 11 || Bold 9900 - Sept 11 - Jan 2012
iPhone 4s - Jan 12 - Feb 13
z10 Feb 13 - Current.

Re: Why Blackberry?

But isn't BB quite lacking in the availability of apps and more general functionality? Like its all very well having more professional functions but that isn't of much use to me since i'm more of a casual user where music, camera and apps is more my thing..

Re: Why Blackberry?

ok so the torch has a 5mp camera and if you really want better pics than 5mp then i would suggest buying a camera :smileyhappy:.... as for apps they may not have as many as Apple but you can see them all here http://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/ and as with any platform the list is growing every day. One of the nice things with Blackberry is you can sync your itunes with it, play lists and covers it also has a great POD cast player too.....

Re: Why Blackberry?

For me it was the QWERTY keyboard and superb e-mail support that made me turn to BB as my first smartphone 18 months ago.
