Hi Josh.
Signal Indicator in capital letters indicates that the BB is connected to RIM's server (i.e. the Blackberry network). Since almost all BB data goes through RIM (including browsing) you need this in order to access the internet (and receive email, etc.).
Have you had the signal meter showing captial letters before?
If not (& it's a new phone or new SIM/contract) then you will need to have BIS (Blackberry Internet Service/Solution) added to your account. To do this call Customer Services.
If the phone has been working correctly & has recently lost connection, there are a couple of things to try.
1) ... Battery Pull (remedies many ills!)
2) ... Register via Host Routing Table (Options > Device > Advanced > Host Routing Table > BB Button > Register)
If these don't work, it may be a local network problem - take a look at the faults board.
Hope this helps.
