email not working

For 2 days I have not been able to receive or send emails from my work account that is linked to a BES. The server has been rebooted but still nothing. Other Vodafone customers are receiving emails without any problem. I have a Bold 9700 and have not changed any of the settings. I have also pulled out the battery and done a re-register on the host routing thing. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: email not working

Hi Braithers1234 and welcome to the eForum

I’m sorry to hear that you are having problems with this. I appreciate how frustrating this must be for you.

Do you have an internet connection? If so, then your Vodafone connection is working correctly and you’ll need to speak to your company. BES is completely managed by your company’s BES server which means we have no means of troubleshooting your issue.

Please let us know how you get on though and if you have any more questions we’ll be happy to help you further.

Thanks

Wayne

Re: email not working

Thanks for the email. Things are better now and I am receiving emails again on my phone. The only problem I have is that my outlook diary is not reconciling with my handset. Can you suggest something?

Thanks

Re: email not working

Dear Braithers1234,

With your Outlook diary, is this linked to the same email account as your BES emails? Also are you talking about it synchronising wirelessly or via BlackBerry Desktop Software?

If a wireless synchronysation, go into your Calendar on the handset. Press the BlackBerry menu button (to the left of your trackpad), and select Options. Under Accounts, you should see a list of Calendars. If it is the BES calendar that you are having trouble with, then this will be listed as Desktop. Select this and you should see an option for Wireless Synchronysation. If this is not ticked, then please do so and save. If this does not solve your problem, then you will need to speak to the guys that manage your BES. Vodafone will not be able to do anything about this as they have no control over your BES accounts. I'm quite suprised that your BES people aren't helping you with this.

If this is about synchronising via BlackBerry Desktop Software, then I would check your settings within that program. Do a back up of your handset before tinkering, just in case.

Hope that helps.

Cheers

Re: email not working

Yes, I was referring to wireless sync with the BES server. I have tried what you suggested but when I select destop calendar I do not get an optioin for wireless synchronization, the screen just goes straight back to the calendar. Also when I go back to try to tick the desktop calendar again the desktop has been unselected and it just shows 'Show all calendars'. It is very frustrating as I am having to double enter all my diary entries. Any further thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: email not working

If your BES emails are working again, but you don't have a wireless synchronisation option for the Calendar, then you will need to get the guys who manage your BES to look into this.

As I mentioned before, they would be the best ones to help, as they would know how your BlackBerry should behave as they control it. Unfortunately, Vodafone or us other people who help out here would be shooting in the dark about your issue.

I must admit though that I am a little confused by your response. You state that you do not see the option to wireless sync the calendar, but then state that you are trying to tick it? Are you sure you are looking in the right place, as selecting the Desktop calendar under options should only show you if the wireless sync is available, whether you want reminders displayed, how what colour you would like the appointment to be and how many calendar entries you have? It should not behave as you describe (hence my confusion)

  • select the Calendar icon from your home screen
  • press the menu button on the keypad
  • scroll down the menu and select Options
  • you should now see a list of options, such as Calendar Display Options, conference calling, date and time (may vary depending on which OS you are running). Below that you will see the Accounts, listing which calendars are on your handset

You would find it so much easier to speak to your work IT department who manage your BES. They know how your BB should behave, they can physically look at your handset, and this is one of the things that they are paid for, after all!

Trust me, you will get this solved so much quicker through them, rather than through the eForum.

Cheers

Re: email not working

Thanks for your time. I work in a school and believe me they haven't a clue about BES! They have enough difficulty making a printer work. Thanks again though.
