Although i dont like anything other than Blackberry (even though it lacks in depth development) , i would change to an Android if anything.
The fact that blackberry is making some great changes to get itself back up to scratch keeps me a long time user. (Hardware and OS)

Seen it coming. Symbian was horrible.

When it comes to future growth, I don't think its even about the (hardware and OS) any more.
All platforms have their pros & cons. There are lots of issues with both iphone and Android phones and yet people are buying them in droves.
Its all about the ecosystem of the platform that is important now. Specifically how well a particular eco system captivates and delivers great content to a platform.
ie. Which platform has the coolest wide ranging app store and developer community. Which platform offers the best media content.
Who has the most mind share. etc etc.
Again all these eco systems have their pro's and con's, but I think its fair to say that Apple and Google are breaking away from Nokia's OVI and Blackberry app world, and while the latter two have their loyal core customer base, and perhaps always will, I just can't see them being able to catch up with their eco system offerings.
Nokia will have to adopt Android or Win phone 7 or both and perhaps maintain Symbian at the same time.
Dunno about blackberry. Android and ios are still in their infancy and have security concerns etc. But I can't see blackberry holding on to the corporate market indefinitely. Especially as Microsoft Exchange becomes less and less important in the future.

People buy things in droves mostly because other people have them.
Apple are like toys. Only good for Apps and Games.
RIM however are trying to match this aswell as keeping their business appeal.
Giving OpenGL support and adding Liquid Graphics will enable developers to create better games and apps for BB App World.
Mobile manufacturers are changing very rapidly and ill be very interested to see what other manufacturers plan to do this year

Android has boomed as it is so flexible to make it work with hardware, There is even talk of it being on a Model of TV and why ever not, Eventually i can see it taking over from Mac as a alternative to a windows platform.
Windows have tried to have a go with there new windows mobile but it has not worked.
Symbian was well a feeble attempt at beating apple the reason was the language for developers of apps so they never got allot of interest and well the OVI store was a joke,
Apple worst enemy are them self they brought a smart phone out and every one else was trying to beat them they held them off until now.
Tablets are the next thing and gess what operating system there using Android my wife thinks the Motorola walks all over her Galaxy Tab but when she got her tab there was only the ipad and she hated it, I can not get any were near her tab she also uses it for work so no need for a laptop
I don't think Android will be topped from this as it is getting better and better Apple no this but if i no apple they will still stay there like they have with the computer's
But the big question is What's Next ???? with technology And no not 3D That will never take off i feel a Head ache coming on
I have not yet found a unhappy android customer, But i have always found a Apple customer that has gone to Android and will never go back, Don't get me wrong i have a Ipod nano and my son has a ipod touch i can not fault them one bit i think apple made a misstake going down the phone route but they did.
Symbian has had its day and i think it need sending to the software grave yard, The next will be the Blackberry os but they will ring that to death first
Rest in Peace Symbian

Obviously, with the pace that Android was making, it was inevitable.
Symbian was getting too long in the tooth, was often buggy and if anything there were too many versions. Nokia became complacent, sat on their haunches for too long and they were happy with the 40% market share at the time.
I thought they would go with Maemo 5 for some time while they worked on an alternative to that or Symbian even, but alas they let that go without anything to fill the void until MeeGo appears.
I haven't had any experience with Android as yet, but if I get a larger MicroSD for my N900 in the future I may just give it a go with a multi-boot set up.
Android and Maemo 5 are pretty much one and the same, which makes porting Android apps a viable proposition, developers just have to work in Qt rather than Java. I don't know how much of a Linux kernel Android has, but I'm not sure if it's as much as Maemo 5. (Don't think so anyway).
Is Android network brandable at all? One of the reasons I plumbed for the N900 was I wanted to shake off the network shackles.
To be honest I would have plumbed for an Android if the N900 wasn't available, but there was just one thing putting me off. Google and their track record. Call me Mr Paranoid, but their behaviour with privacy scares me, plus I don't like their ideas for the future regarding advertising. Unless the networks make some changes and improvements, I can see some people getting pretty peeved to have targeted adverts soaking up their network allowance. 1GB just isn't enough for general browsing and dozens of ads each day and not everywhere can get 3G. What a drawl that would be downloading adverts over a 2G connection.![]()
