POLL: Xbox 360 vs. PS3

Hey All,

I don't know about any of you, but I'm a huge fan of video games. Which do you reckon is the best current gen console? The PS3 with its Blu Ray playback and internet browsing, or the 360 with its incredible Kinect controller, solid online platform and array of exclusive games?

Vote here!

Re: POLL: Xbox 360 vs. PS3

I've always used PlayStation although their internet updates when waiting to play a game can be furstrating and it's caused plenty of crashes over wifi, so much so I've now linked it up through Ethernet.

I'm not much for the internet experience to be honest, it's used solely for gaming, bluerays and a secondary DVD player. Other than that I'm still playing Wii tennis!!

How can 360 be losing 5-1 already?! The one vote was mine too :smileysad:

Re: POLL: Xbox 360 vs. PS3

360 is losing because it's not as good as the PS3:smileytongue:

Always had a playstation and much prefer it to the xbox.

Love that the PS3 will have a much longer life than the xbox, many devs have said xbox has reached it performance capabilities whereas PS3 still has a way to go. Oh and BluRay + LoveFilm are major plus!

LIES! I still think Xbox games look better than PS3 ones, but for me it's the experience that makes the Xbox so great. Updates download and install in seconds and the online service is rock solid. I think the game demos and stuff are much more extensive too, although you do of course have to pay for Xbox Live. Still, if you want to be the member of an exclusive club, you have to pay the membership fee :smileywink:

I do agree that from a media perspective the PS3 wins hands down. Sky Player on Xbox is great, but it's no match for LoveFilm and a Blu Ray drive. In fact, the Blu Ray drive is the only reason I own a PS3. Still, it surely won't be long before LoveFilm will be on Xbox too, given Amazon love making their content available on all platforms don't they.

A Blu Ray enabled 360 would solve it once and for all for me!

Re: POLL: Xbox 360 vs. PS3

The winner has to be PS3! Not because it's the best platform, but because of TEKKEN!

Not at all true, the PS3 does indeed have a way to go but only to match the 360 not surpass it as their hardware capabilities are broadly similar even though they have different implementations.  The problem is while first party titles can shine, multi-platform titles are generally weaker on the PS3 than the 360 and this is where the PS3 has a way to go but only to catch up.  Both consoles are old enough now that you're not going to be seeing much more from them.

As a gamer I'm platform agnostic, I have a pair of Xboxes, a pair of PS3's, a Wii, DS, PSP, decent gaming PC etc. as really that's the only way to go to enjoy all the games that are out there.  My preference for multi-platform games between the two is the 360, I prefer the design of the triggers, Xbox live and the generally faster loading times once copied to the hard drive although have no hesitation in buying and playing exclusives on the PS3 if there is no choice.  I'm not that bothered about the PS3's media capabilities as I have other devices which handle a more diverse range of media than the PS3 which means I use the Sony console purely for games where I find it's weaker than the 360.

Re: POLL: Xbox 360 vs. PS3

I don't have a PS3, really wanted one but refused to pay the asking price so made do with an Xbox 360 for less than half the price of a PS3. I was impressed until it ruined 2 of my discs by burning a lovely ring around them. 1 disc was only a few days old as well.

I've now resorted to the older Sega megadrive, Saturn and Dreamcast. Despite the technology available on the current crop of gaming consoles none give me the same feeling of joy I get when playing Sega Rally championship on the Sega Saturn. The Sega rally versions available for the current games consoles may have the edge in picture quality etc (ok, a little more than an edge) but they are nowhere near as much fun. I'm now scouring ebay for a steering wheel after getting rid of all of mine years ago :smileyvery-happy:

Re: POLL: Xbox 360 vs. PS3

Have you tried popping down to your local video games retailer and getting them to clean the disc dnairb001? There's a particular chain which does it for a few quid, I've had discs rescued by them before.

Also, with the 360, make sure you install games to the HDD and you'll massively reduce wear on the discs as they don't spin up so much during gameplay.

Thanks for the tip Tom, think my son mentioned something about getting the discs cleaned before. Not sure of the size of the HDD on the console, or if it has one built in (to my shame). Most of my games and spare controllers have gone walkies now anyway after being "borrowed" (son's friends aren't the most trusted of people either) so it's all been put away and they've been banned from the house. Will get them out again sometime as some of the new driving games do look good :smileywink:

Re: POLL: Xbox 360 vs. PS3

I'm guessing it's the old shape 360 if it's been chewing discs, so as far as I know, if it has a shiny chrome disc drawer it'll have at least a 40GB hard drive, or if it's normal plastic it won't have any.

The drives are available quite cheaply now, you can get the 250GB one (the biggest) for £60 online. Very easy to upgrade too- you just push the button on the top and it clips off.

P.S. I'm not on any sort of commission from Microsoft! Just a minor fanboy when it comes to the 360 :smileyvery-happy:

Re: POLL: Xbox 360 vs. PS3

No shiny chrome drawer so I'll assume it has no HDD built in. As I said I'm more into the original Sega again at the moment but have had the occasional look at HDD's for the 360. New bike is on the list now as I need to get back into shape and can't do my usual training at the moment. Might take the plunge regarding HDD's in the near future but it's not high on my list of priorities at the moment (according to my wife who won't be happy if I come up with any more delaying tactics to stop her watching Eastenders) :smileywink:

Quite clearly the 360 wins this one. Lets face it, our network wasnt hacked and is didnt face any downtime :smileywink:

Edit: @TSD - My favourite game on my Xbox 360 is Tekken 6, it's not restricted to PS :smileywink:
