Vodafone Mobile Connect Won’t Install

jwilson
Not applicable
I have recently changed laptops and am having issues installing the ‘Vodafone Mobile Connect’ software.

Particulars

Operating System: Windows XP Professional Server Pack 3

Mobile Connect Software: Version 9.3 downloaded from http://online.vodafone.co.uk/dispatch/Port...&tabIndex=2

Installation User: Local Administrator

Device: PCMCIA Vodafone Data Card

Issue

The installation wizard hangs towards the end when it is trying to start the ‘vodafone mobile connect service’.

I have checked and the folder and files are created correctly under c:\program files\vodafone\vodafone mobile connect

However,

When I check ‘services’ the ‘Vodafone mobile connect service’ just has a status of ‘starting’. After about 5 minutes the installation wizard begins the roll back mechanism.

I have checked other posts and have tried everything I can find (i.e. starting the windows management instrumentation driver extension service, items listed within http://consumerdocs.installshield.com/self...9&sliceId=1, disabling antivirus) but to no avail.

Any assistance appreciated.

Hi jwison,

I've consulted with our Mobile Broadband specialist, and he's asked you to take a look in the list of processes in Task Manager for something called "fixcamera". That's a little malware program that is designed to stop any service beginning with "VM" from running. Apparently this can sometimes piggyback on dodgy Webcam software and drivers.

If you terminate this process, it should enable the installation to continue. Beyond that, I'd recommend investing in some anti-malware programs to help clean out the program and prevent anything similar from infecting you in the future (apparently Norton has no effect on this particular program, but something called "Malwarebytes" should sort you out).

There are also manual instructions on removal listed here - http://community.norton.com/norton/board/m...message.id=3814

Let us know if this was the cause of your problem :)

I trust this helps, and if you have a spare moment, please take some time to fill in a short survey about your forum experience today.

Hi Jon,

Tried everything you suggested but still no good so decided to format the laptop and start again (drastic I know) but having spent so much time on it. It was the simplier option. Everything installed and working now (touch wood).

Regards,
John

I had a process called camerafixer.exe. Deleting it from the registry allowed me to install VMB.
