Avatar and Signature help

[ Edited ]

Hi Everyone,

You'll have noticed the forum's got a lot more colourful lately, as we've restructured the unlockables and made it easier to be able to add your own avatar. Additionally I've demonstrated to a few people how to use HTML to insert an image into your signature.

As I've been doing this, I've become aware there are lots of budding artists out there, and I'm sure those people would be willing to help anyone else who wants to customise their account. I've started this thread as the home for that, so offer your services here, or ask for help here, whichever way you like!

Here are some starting tips to kick it off...

Signatures

There's a limit on images in signatures of 674 pixels wide and 60 pixels high, so make sure your images are no bigger than that.

Once you've got your signature image ready, upload it to your gallery on the forum by going to your profile page (click on your own name anywhere on the forum) and then choosing upload image on the right hand side. Next, click on the image in your gallery to open it up in its own page, then right click on it and choose "copy image URL".

Next, go to the Personal Information tab on your eForum Settings page and enter the following into the Signature box:

<img align="center" src="insert the URL of your image in place of this red text">

And there we go!

Avatars

Avatars can't be any bigger than 64 pixels wide by 36 pixels high. To upload an avatar, upload an image to your gallery and then set that image as your profile picture from this page.

Thanks,

Tom

This is a really great feature, and one I have taken advantage of already as you can see... :smileyvery-happy:

If anyone wants any help, advice or if you would like me to create your artwork/pic, Just ask here, and I'll be glad to help.:smileywink:

Don't worry if you can't afford Adobe Photoshop, or Coral Paint Shop Pro.

You can download a FREE program called "G I M P", HERE it is built on the foundation of Photoshop and is able to use many of the same features and add ons!

You can even use MS Paint, just a little more awkward to do what you want!

If you cant make your own sigs and don't want to ask people to make them for you try using This Site . Just make your banner but instead of using the suggested storage site download/save the sig/banner/whatever then open it with paint, use the select option to cut off the ads, save it again replacing the original image then upload using the method Tom said. Jobs a good'un :smileyhappy:

Hi All,

You've probably noticed all of the moderating team have recently had new signatures which help to advertise usage of Kudos and Accepted Solutions.

We've seen a massive increase in people using these features since then, so I'd really recommend giving the same kind of thing a try. Receiving Kudos and Accepted Solutions counts towards your forum rank, so will ultimately allow you to unlock new stuff.

To help you out, here are all of the URLs for signatures the team are using at the moment. If you'd like some help making a custom one, give me a shout in here or by PM and I'll do my best to create something for you :smileyhappy:

To set your signature, copy and paste the entire code below the signature you'd like into the Signature box on this page, then click Save.

Re: Avatar and Signature help

As far as I can see there's no option to disable just signature images instead you have to disable signatures entirely? Would be useful to have if the option doesn't currently exist as I'd prefer not to have signatures completely disabled, just the intrusive signature images out of the way.

Re: Avatar and Signature help

You're right John, there's not an option for that. You could check "ignore HTML" in settings which would omit them, but it'll also chop out any embedded videos and images too, so I don't think that's a solution.

I'll find out if anything else is possible :smileyhappy:

Re: Avatar and Signature help

Hi Nabs,

its just an image i created, which doesn't say much (name, what phone i have, and an icon)

I went by the sizes mentioned above, and it shows fine on my laptop in ######, but when it uploads to here, it

seems to have...shrunk

Rather puzzling....

Re: Avatar and Signature help

MTL,

All i'm seeing is an error triangle, guess that the image hasn't uploaded properly.

I've sent you a PM, if you can reply we can see about getting it sorted :smileyhappy:

Re: Avatar and Signature help

TADAA!

All sorted, I think you had the link to the thumbnail view rather than the full image in your sig, I replaced it and all looks good now. Hopefully you'll be grinning like a Cheshire Cat?!

Thanks to Nabs for the offer of help, marvellous to see everybody being so supportive. Kudos coming your way :smileyhappy:

Re: Avatar and Signature help

Hi mobing,

Did you need help with using one of your own pictures for a signature?

If you upload your image then Tom will be able to apply it as a sig for you... :smileywink:

Or do you want to use one of the Sig's that Tom put in this thread?

Again tell Tom which one you want and he will be able to do that for you too... :smileywink:

If you want help making a signature, I can make one for you, just let me know what images you want, :smileywink:

Re: Avatar and Signature help

Hi mobing,

Signatures are actually an unlockable feature. You'll need to earn some Kudos by helping other members before you'll be able to set one up.

Thanks,

Tom

Re: Avatar and Signature help

I don't seem to have the option of adding a signature to my profile - do you have to be a certain rank to enable this feature?

Thanks,

Adam

Re: Avatar and Signature help

Hi Adam,

Signatures are unlocked when you reach Scout or Poster level.

You can find more details about the fetures you unlock and at which levels you get there on this thread

Stick in at it you won't be far away from these levels :smileyhappy:

Re: Avatar and Signature help

just a small correction...

The Signatures are available AFTER the "Scout" or "Poster" Ranks.

When is it available?

Signatures are available to all members except those with a "Scout" or "Poster" rank.
