Redbox Not so good.

Recently I bought a new HTC Wilfire S phone from the Vodafone shop and asked for all my contacts, messages ect to be transfered from my old phone to the new one. The assistant in the shop had to change my old sim for a new one, i was not asked to bring in a flash drive for back ups so didnt know i could do this, when i got home i found out that none of my saved text messages or ringtones or pictures had been transfered and about a third of my contact numbers where missing. So i didnt have a good experience of 'Redbox'..

Re: Redbox Not so good.

Thats quite disappointing

Sounds like more of a one off, in terms of pictures especially.

I would always try and back this stuff even with Red box, via a computer if possible.

Re: Redbox Not so good.

It sounds like your old phone stored some numbers on the SIM and some on the handsets internal memory.

Firstly when changing the SIM card you will have lost anything that was saved on there, this would be contacts and some messages.

Taking this into account what the Redbox transfered would have been the phone content ie the messages and contacts stored on your old phone.

This unfortunatly means you have lost some information.

Useful tip for you, Add all your contacts to the address book of the google account you use for your phone. That way they are always backed up and will automatically be restored when you get a new Android phone.

Re: Redbox Not so good.

Hi winneop

Thank you for your post and it is great to see you here. :smileyhappy:

I am sorry you have had a poor experience using the Redbox technology as this has proved very popular and this information should have been advised before this was done.

Unfortunately as Nabs has suggested the information on the SIM card may no longer be available and this I understand is a poor experience.

If you have any further queries we can assist with please do not hesitate to post on the eForum.

Many Thanks

Re: Redbook Not so good.

Supposedly the assistant copied all the details off my old Sim card and handset, before setting up a new one. No text messages or pictures where copied to my new phone at all. Some of the contact Numbers I lost are irreplaceable as I have no way of contacting the people who's numbers they where.  I am very disappointed with the redbox service and don't think its as good as Vodafone are making it out to be, Carphone Warehouse used to double check that all data had been copied and give you a back up CD of all your data.
