3g Issues

I've had my htc desire for about a year now and when I bought it, getting a 3G signal.was no problem, now though I hardly ever get it. I have checked vodafone's network map and it says it's good in my area, but I'm not seeing that. I don't live in london but I go to college in N1 and I don't get a 3 G signal there either. I know I can get 3G because my phone has picked it up recently in Germany, and I occasionally get it flicker on the train. Is it my phone? I feel like I'm not getting what I pay for.

Hi skyblue22,
Welcome to the eForum - I wish it was under better circumstances!
Your post mentions specific locations, but are these the only ones where you get no signal? If they are, can you confirm the full postcodes so we can take a look.
Also, if you pop the SIM card into an alternate handset, does that have the same problem? Similarly, do you have the same issue if you pop an alternate SIM card into your handset? If necessary, your local store can help with both of these issues.
If the issue is in most locations and the issue did not affect the alternate handset but persisted with a different SIM then the issue would be down to the handset itself. Did anything change or update on the handset when this first happened?
If you haven't already, then there are a few things you can try before sending the handset for repair.
Firstly, do you have the latest firmware installed?
Next, you can try a hard reset to clear any pieces of code left open on the handset from closed programs:
- Switch the handset on
- Whilst powered up, remove the SIM card and battery
- Put the battery back in and switch on
- Wait a couple of minutes, then remove the battery again
- Replace the SIM and battery and switch back on
Finally, you can back up the phone and reset the handset to factory settings to remove any software conflicts, as we know that build works for you.
If the issue persists, then check out our FAQ for how to arrange a repair.
