All,

On my HTC desire, I can send and receive emails on the normal mail app attached to the phoe, but through the gmail app, sending a message just stalls in the outbox and doesn't send at all.  Is there a way I can fix this in the phone itself, or is itsomething Google has to sort out?

Gonna possibly sound silly, but when you type your email and send it, have you tried using the "Sync All" widget thats built in? Occasionally my Gmail app is a bit lazy in sending but when I force a sync it always sends my outbox contents.. Failing that, try clearing the Cache like redpages has suggested (Go to Settings, Applications, Manage Applications, then select "All" at the top then locate Gmail, once you find it select it and press on "Clear Cache" then "OK"). Clearing cache fixed a few bugs I had with Market and other Google apps, so it could be the way forward for your Gmail

Neither solution offered works when I tried them. Any other ideas?

If you go into Android market and find Gmail, are you able to download it? IF so, try downloading as it might be an updated version of the app (doesn't always show as update available)
