I've had my Desire HD for 12 months with only 1 minor issue requiring a factory reset which solved the problem, otherwise perfectly happy.

Recently last 2 - 3 weeks I have had a problem with not connecting to the wifi at home. When I check, the phone has turned wifi off! I turn it back on and normally it connects ok, sometimes requires a restart (or switch to flight mode and back) before being able to load a webpage.

Decided to do a factory reset and see if the problem goes away, initially this seemed to work but the next day after returning from work the problem was still the same.

The wifi is not set to turn off after 15 minutes, and is in "best wifi performance" mode although this does not change the problem if selected or not. I have not dropped the phone and it is otherwise working perfectly, just that it doesn't connect automatically to the home wifi and has actually turned the wifi off!!

I have also had this problem, started about 1.5 weeks ago.

At the same time I also noticed a variety of 'BTOpenZone' WiFi connections (that I had not created) in the 'Remembered' connections.  I have forgotten these connections (several times), but they reappear within minutes.

Any ideas anyone?

It looks like you have covered what would have been my first suggestion in doing a factory reset.

The only thing that I would now suggest is to send the phone away for repair.

Have you installed the 'My Vodafone' app?  I believe I installed this app about the same time my problems started.  It has a function that detects WiFi connections, and therefore has control over the WiFi card.

Last night I did a hard reset, and spent the night reinstalling/configuring my phone.  It was fine all night, while at home, but when I left the house this morning, and started picking up BTOpenZone connections, had exactly the same problems.  When I got to work I uninstalled the 'My Vodafone' app, and so far have had no more probelms........  It is detecting BTOpenZone connection, but not remembering them, and not turning the WiFi off.

Will be monitoring and will let you know if I get anymore failures with this app uninstalled.

Thanks for the reply. I hope we are on to something here as I am reluctant to send the phone back for a repair when it doesn't appear faulty except for at home.

I have BT broadband (with BT HomeHub 3) at home and have also had the problem where it ignores my home network and connects to BT Openzone automatically. Even after forgetting BT Openzone it still connects the next time I return home. I have tried turning off the open network notification but this has not helped.

I have installed the My Vodafone app, both before and after the factory reset. I'll try uninstalling it now and see what happens when I get home.

I'm wondering is this a specific problem with BT broadband or is it related to the phone/software?

Again, thanks for the update, I'll feedback after trying uninstalling the My Vodafone app and returning home.

I would suggest a repair to a phone that is not proving faulty is not the optimum solution.

Having feedback from pmaxwell I have googled the My Vodaphone app and discovered several similar experiences. Additionally there is feedback on the Android Marketplace (see 1 comment below) that shows the same problem experienced, indicating the My Vodafone app is faulty.

This app is great except it's a bit of a trojan - It either disables WiFi without warning, so you eat your costly data, or takes preference to BTopenzone or BT_FON hotspots removing. Not good if you want to use your more secure home network and your neighbour is hosting BT's WiFi service. Until VF do something about it, this app is technically a trojan virus. I hadn't seen those comments, until now, but I'd say that was a fairly conclusive answer.

I also thought the 'Return for repair' comment was a bit excessive for something that was fairly obviously software related.

Vodafone, if you're going to put software out there, please make sure it doesn't break phones before you release it.

I can confirm that after uninstalling My Vodafone app the problem has been resolved. I did like the app and would appreciate if you can update when the software has been corrected.

So glad someone worked it out!

This has been annoying me for the last 2 weeks and as I was reading down the thread I thought it was funny how it had happened to us all around the same time.

I also agree it's rediculous to suggest sending the phone for repair without checking for causes first.  I'm on my 3rd phone and the hassle of setting everything back up to how you like it is only worth it if there is a proper fault with the phone, not when Vodafone have a faulty app.

Happy to have it sorted so well done to the person who realised what was causing it :-).

Glad I found this as it has been bugging me too and I hadn't made the link with the Vodafone app. Glad I didn't follow the suggestion to send phone back for repair though!

It's pity because I found the app useful otherwise. Can anyone from Vodafone advise when a fix will be available?

I'm so glad I found this too as have had same problem & was wasting so much time trying to figure out what was wrong.

I 've reluctantly uninstalled My Vodafone app & so far everything seems to be back to normal !

It's good to see this problem is still being investigated. I have not reinstalled the application after fixing the wireless connection problem. If the application has been fixed I will happily give it another try ;-)

I fixed it by uninstalling the app, I'm not planning on breaking my phone by reinstalling it until the app has been fixed.

I've got a Desire S and am having the same problems.. After a few tests it seems to be the Vodafone app which is the issue.

Can the app be sorted??
