Re: Desire HD latest firmware.

I am having the same problem. I can reboot into the bootloader, i press the volume down to navigate to recovery, then press the power button to select it. Next, the phone reboots again but now I see the picture of a phone with with a red exclamation mark inside a red triangle. At this point i press volume up and power and before anything, i get an error in yellow text saying:

'E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command'

Then at the top, writing in blue appears:

Android system recovery <3e>

Has 4 options to pick from. Second of these options is to 'Apply sdcard:update.zip', but when i select this option, i get an error saying, 'Invalid Operation' and the phone reboots. I've tried to wipe the cache but still no luck.

What could be the issue?

Re: Desire HD latest firmware.

You've renamed the file to update.zip?

Re: Desire HD latest firmware.

Yes, 'update.zip'

I have extracted nothing though, just downloaded the file, renamed it and stuck it in the root of the memory card.

Re: Desire HD latest firmware.

Hmmm, that's how it should be done but as I said I was going from how the original Desire works. Might be worth asking over on XDA (although they'll probably just say root it :smileyvery-happy: )

Re: Desire HD latest firmware.

Your instrutions are true for the Desire HD too. Might just have to go around to the XDA forums now. But seriously, I shouldnt even need to do this, having been a Vodafone customer for over 2 years now, the quality of customer service I have recieved has been appaling. I hve had no help what so ever off Vodafone, its thanks to myself and people in this thread that I've got this far.

Anyway, XDA it is, you might just see me there :smileyhappy:

Re: Desire HD latest firmware.

Absolutely - shame it's coming from HTC's server and not controlled by Vodafone :smileywink:

Unfortunately not. Vodafone tell me to call HTC, they tell me to call Vodafone. Done this a few times and now I'm fed up. Absolutely pathetic. All that is required is to push a link to the serial number so the update would arrive OTA. Vodafone claim HTC send out updates, HTC insist they only push out updates for unbranded phones. Nobody wants to help. A mod started to help in this thread, but has not replied since. What's the point troubleshooting, making me carry out certain tasks to do with my phone, and ensuring 'I'm sure we'll get to the bottom of this' when nobodies going to follow up and deal with it. A massive company such as Vodafone cannot deal with something as simple as this.

I give up. Very annoyed.

Re: Desire HD latest firmware.

HTC are talking rubbish. We can all see the OTA file comes from their servers so THEY push it out. Whether they do it with the operators permission or not I don't know

Having exactly the same problem with "E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command" message and unable to update.

Re: Desire HD latest firmware.

Dunduk - Did you ever get this sorted?   Upgrading (or trying to) to Gingerbread has put my Desire HD into this state :smileysad:
