Desire HD used all banndwith allowance yet hardly used!!!

Hello,

The girlfirend has just got her new Desire HD and is not having a panic becuase vodafone has sent her a messgae saying she is near her limit. She  hasnt used the internet all day yet its still managed to use 20mb of data.

How the hell can this be possible? Shes pretty much using the standard apps and only used the facebook and bbc news mobile web sites and has hardly anything running other than the ###### that vodafone insist she uses.

Can vodafone tell me with great ugency what is using this obscene amount of data and how we can remove these unwanted and annoying applications/demos?

If you cannot tell me what is doing this then I insist that you put her on a truly unlimited data bundle as this simply isn't fair given its in an almost factory default state!

I look forward to an almost immediate reply! I know you normally email her however she can be contacted through me and using my registerted email address.

Thanks

Re: Desire HD used all banndwith allowance yet hardly used!!!

Hiya  when did you get the message, when you said she just got it, sometimes its not explained properly

If you take out a brand new connection on a new account, before the 25th of the month I think - the first day you use it has only one days allowance and then your full month restarts, if you take it out after 25th, you get 8 days allowance and then your month restarts, it sounds very like this may be causing your text

you won't get put on an unlimited data bundle as a consumer customer, so it would be best to resolve this before hand to save charges.

I would also recommend signing up for an online a/c there is some good info about your first bill ont here and how the allowances are worked out

I'd say get a list of all the apps on the phone, including any that have been installed since getting the phone, and also check the sync settings to make sure there's nothing constantly syncing.

Also, use WiFi whenever possible as it'll save on data costs and also save battery life as it's not having to keep scanning for stronger 3G signal

Re: Desire HD used all banndwith allowance yet hardly used!!!

Hello,
Thanks for the replies.
the data useage is legit as I've installed 3g watchdog and its showing that data usage is through the roof. Well in excess of 30mb a day. I've uninstalled most non standard apps to eliminate them as well but still no joy.

Wo do use wifi when possible however this is a smart phone which uses the internet and as such if its been sold with an unsuitable data bundle then its not fit for purpose.

As it stands I've had to disable all syncing which makes this smartphone not at all smart! Its unacceptable to have to go into settings each time an application needs to be used to enable it and then switch it off again when not in use.

Perhaps if Vf didnt put all that ###### on there things would be easier to spot. I know for a fact the 360 junk uses the internet even though we dont use it! go figure!

So in short, VF have 2 options. Remove the ###### thats using the connection or up the data limit to ensure the phones usable.

Re: Desire HD used all banndwith allowance yet hardly used!!!

I have an original Desire and am on a 500MB/month allowance. I've only once gone over this and that's due to tethering to my laptop. Running as it is I've never got near it. I have:

- Facebook/Twitter apps set to update every hour
- Weather updating every hour
- 2 Gmail accounts set to push

I browse the net a fair bit over 3G (Facebook, 2nd account, Twitter, other websites like BBC Sport) and even with all this I never went over 400MB - less now I use WiFi when at home/work (less than 100MB) so I thnk the allowance is fine

Re: Desire HD used all banndwith allowance yet hardly used!!!

No doubt the allowance should be enough. I have an iphone and use 200mb if that! My problem is that the phone is using that allowance when not in use and by only using th standard apps that come on the phone. 360 is using the internet and thats not even configured!!!

Vodafone, I'm awaiting a response please. this is getting totally ridiculous.

That could be it, 3rd party apps added by Vodafone that use it without your consent
