Dictionary and texting messed up since update on Desire HD

Since I put the new upgrade on my phone Im having trouble with my dictionary and also with annoying niggles when texting.

For some reason my dictionary will accept new 2 letter words but will not bring them up as an option when texting (I must mention that I use the number pad to text as I HATE they keyboard and get sick of seeing qwerty keyboards as I sit at a computer all day!) never had this problem before I put the upgrade on.

Also when using predictive text the words dont always appear in the same order which really annoys me and makes texting so much slower as I end up accepting or hitting the wrong word several times with them always moving around. Is there a way to stop this happening? or am I just going to be annoyed by my phone until I decide to get a new one?

It would be good if we could edit the dictionary more and delete words that come stored on it that are never used (ie the american version of spelling some words)and rearrange the list of symbols on the number 1 key to name a few.

ps. I also detest the new ring pull unlocking system - can we have an option to chose either the new version or the old one please???

Hi hornydevil

Thanks for your post here. I’m sorry to hear that you are having problems with this. I appreciate how frustrating these new changes must be for you.

To get to your Dictionary settings, see below;-

Settings > Language & Keyboard > To check language settings

Settings > Language and Keyboard > Touch input > Personal dictionary

It certainly looks like you have found a few niggles with the new update.

I would try a factory reset on the device to make sure these niggles aren’t due to a glitch in the firmware. If this doesn’t resolve things then as soon as we have a few examples of the same problem we’ll get this raised to our devices team to see if these issues can be resolved by our teams or if it’s the basic functionality of Android and not something that we can alter.

With regards to the ring pull unlock, this is now standard across the Android range and not something that can be changed.

I’ll leave this open to our other eForum members to comment on to see if there is anything else you can try.

Thanks

Wayne
