Does my Desire S have a 3G problem?

Hi,

I've had my Desire S for several months and am pretty pleased with it on the whole. However, I rarely get 3G coverage.

I regularly get 4 bar signal with either E, G or H indicators, but I can count the times the handset has shown 3G on one hand, and when it does, it is only fleetingly. I can be sat with my wife and daughter (with a Samsung and an iphone, both on Vodafone), with 4 bar 3G signal, and my phone only registers 2 or 3 bars with an H signal. The iphone will aslo have a very responsive internet connection, with mine being quite sluggish.

Does anyone know if this a problem, or is it just a Desire thing?

Thanks,

TT

G= 2G

E= Edge (2.5G)

H= HSDPA (the fastest)

3G is inbetween Edge and HSDPA.....I also don't see it that often any more as most 3G sites are now HSDPA capable.

Re: Does my Desire S have a 3G problem?

Hi, thanks so much for your swift resonse!

The issue I have is everywhere! As I said, I very rarely get a 3G signal (I do travel around the UK and it's always the same, so it's not just at home), it's usually 4bars of G or H displayed, even if someone with me has a strong 3G signal on their phone. We have vodafone mobile broadband at home, which always has a light blue indicator (3G connection), my wife and daughter both get strong 3G signals on vodafone, but I do not. I've just popped my sim back into my old Nokia X6, and straight away I get a full 3.5G signal.

Any ideas would be great, or does this sound like a phone problem?

Thanks again,

Tim

So can I take it that the H symbol is actually better than 3G? If so, I've not got a problem, I'm really sorry if I've been a bit of a Biff!!

Hi Timmy_T

Correct, H is indeed better and faster than 3G. :smileyhappy:

Please let me know if you have any more questions and we’ll be happy to help you further.

Thanks

Re: Does my Desire S have a 3G problem?

Again, thanks for your advice on this, however, I'm still a bit confused.

My problem is that people with similar phones to me always seem to get better connectivity than me, even when sat together with identical signals. A colleague may have quite a quick connection and I will frequently get a "No connection - Retry?" message, timeout, or just be really slow.

Are there any settings that I can check to make sure I've got every thing set correctly to give an optimum connection speed?

Hi Timmy_T

Thank you for your posts and it is great to see you here. :smileyhappy:

You can check out our Help Centre for hints and tips to get the most from your phone, unfortunately there is not a tap or a valve that will allow us to increase the speed (hypothetically), however please ensure you have the latest software for your device and that there are no unnecessary applications slowing the device down from functioning.

Many Thanks

I know exactly what you mean i only get edge were i work and i often find when trying to get on the net i get no connection even though i have full network but if i switch it to airplane mode then back again it works perfectly its annoying i have to do this but its the only thing that gets the connection back.

Its like it resets your connection on the network or something.

Is this just in your area your getting a bad signal

Check the coverage map if its varible then you will struggle with any phone

you need to do some testing down load a app called opensignal

this tels you what areial you on and whats around
