Re: HTC DESIRE HD Vodafone Bloatware

Create a goldcard, then you can flash the unbranded RUU's from HTC and the ###### will be gone forever.

The downside is it'll wipe your phone clean, but it's probably worth it.

Voda will say this will void your warranty, so what you do is flash back on a horrible branded RUU before sending it in, job done lol

Re: HTC DESIRE HD Vodafone Bloatware

Apparently it's not quite as easy as that on the DHD going by what's said on XDA

Try it though, I may be wrong
HTC One X (S720e)
ROM: 3.14.401.31 (JRO03C)

Re: HTC DESIRE HD Vodafone Bloatware

Rooting on the DHD is actually pretty easy as there are "one click" options available to do pretty much everything apart from flashing new radio.  i.e. the actual root process, and getting S-OFF can be done with apps.

HTC Desire HD

- ROM: Android Revolution HD 2.0.5

- Radio: 26.04.02.17_M2

- Recovery: CWM 2.5.1.3
- Bootloader: 0.85.2007 Engineering

Re: HTC DESIRE HD Vodafone Bloatware

I just got my phone back from repair with this ###### on it, the 360 stuff I could probably live with but the uninstallable trial games are too much. I have been assured by customer service that flashing the firmware does not invalidate my warrenty so will be doing that later this evening.

Re: HTC DESIRE HD Vodafone Bloatware

It 100% invalidates your warranty so don't do it. Only FW that is the same version as yours is allowed. What software version is on your device at present?

Re: HTC DESIRE HD Vodafone Bloatware

TBH firmware flashing via HTC official route can not invalidate your warranty, rooting can not either, i would say 50% of people that root do so to remove bloatware and such... they should just do what they done with the galaxy S and desire and give it stock firmware from HTC and just add vodafone bookmarks in internet explorer on phone... would stop a lot of customers moaning.. it is  as simple as that, plus it would stop the delay in anyfuture firmwares as they would simply need to update bookmarks.

Re: HTC DESIRE HD Vodafone Bloatware

Im going to use my cooling off period to return this phone filled with bloated ###### and go with another provider.

Cant believe vf would put programs you can't uninstal , a bunch of idiots that cost them a customer.

Re: HTC DESIRE HD Vodafone Bloatware

I really just wish they were honest about it and gave a straight answer. I am still not sure if i can wipe the firmware or not without invalidating my warrenty. A clear update timetable would be nice as well.

When I show people the phone the first impression is always positive, but then I tell them about all the firmware and issues with it and it always puts them off going with vodafone, a few of my friends have changed providers over the last month or so just because of this issue. I can't belive they would keep pushing it. Do IPhones get this bloatware on them? I very much doubt they do. Vodafone seem to be totally missing the point of an open handset.

Vodafone...

Any news on when I can get rid of the demos of my phone and free up the 10 or so meg of rubbish that is installed directly to my phones internal memory.

I wouldnt mind if I could move it to my SD card, but that has been blocked as well.

Re: HTC DESIRE HD Vodafone Bloatware

There's no updates as you can't remove them. Only rooting will allow it, unless Vodafone release another version of their FW without them

What a waste of space!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm dead against branding firmware, no point whatsoever as it causes more problems than it's worth. Why brand it in the first place?

Re: HTC DESIRE HD Vodafone Bloatware

Apologies, ive not been on the forum in a while. Everything was going great until the SD card was ruined again.

Whats the story here, ive got an unbranded DHD, first batch sent out and dont want to think im upgrading to Gingerbread and instead get a load of bloatware.

Do the original batch point to HTC to update, rather than VF?

They brand to promote their services, of course. However, when branding forces you to use the limited available data bundle, potentially pushing users onto a new £5 bundle, then this is very customer unfriendly. Especially true if you don't want to use the 360 service. Doubly worse because you cannot use 360 over wifi.

Re: HTC DESIRE HD Vodafone Bloatware

If you have an unbranded phone then you should get your upgrades direct from HTC or at least my last one came that way - without bloatware. I do check before downloading just to make sure.

Re: HTC DESIRE HD Vodafone Bloatware

Is there any news regarding removing this awful bloatware?
I had an unbranded phone but it needed repair and Vodafone had to replace it…but with one with a load of woeful trial games and something needles called 360 etc. It might be me but I find the overall performance slower and the general feel of my phone just seems naff and cheap with a load of crap like ‘Trial Texas hold’em’ littered about the place.
I rang VF last night to be told “just do a factory reset” I said that wouldn’t work but he was insistent it would….no it just removed all the things I downloaded as I suspected. Rang back and told them and I got “Oh that’s HTC’s fault”…erm no it isn’t it’s ur rubbish bloatware….”let me check”….”Ah you’re right you can’t remove them, HTC might be able to here’s their number.”
Guy at HTC “you’re right it’s VF bloatware we can’t do anything, I could tell you how to route you’re phone but that would invalidate your warranty”
Is there anyway to get these 10 USELESS APPS OFF MY PHONE?
360 – WWTBAM Trial – UNO Trial – Tower Bloxx NY Trial – Texas Hold’em Trial – Shop – Music Shop – Guitar Hero Trial – 360Updates – Brick Breaker Trial
Or as a minimum make the trial games removable!! FFS gimps

Re: HTC DESIRE HD Vodafone Bloatware

The only way of removing them is to either root the phone an run a custom ROM or create a gold card and use that to flash a stock unbranded ROM to the handset

Re: HTC DESIRE HD Vodafone Bloatware

Thanks for the reply. As I've had my HTC-DHD break on me once before I'm not too thrilled about losing my warrenty routing the device. Is there any other way? I'm disgusted by VFs support/explanation regarding the issue...I mean what muppet buys these trial games?

Re: HTC DESIRE HD Vodafone Bloatware

If you can find the standard ROM the phone is currently on you can always unroot it for warranty issues. The issue is trying to find the RUU needed (which I'm trying to find for a colleague at present)

All I can say is Go ###### Youself Vodafone. I do not walk into your living room and ###### on the coffee table.

Your attempt obtaining some commercial revenue from the bundle of bloatware is comical.

Its pathetc, ugly, useless and the fact you deliberatlymake it uninstallable just makes you a bunch of contemptable
