HTC Desire HD - sms problems

Hi guys.
Got an issue with receiving text messages. Hope someone can help me out.
I can send them but sometimes it comes back saying 'unable to send after multiple attempts'
When i receive them they can somtimes be delayed by 10 mintues or longer. At first i thought it was my girlfriends phone but she is receiving them and sending a reply which I'm not receiving/being delayed.
I have a full signal, my wifi is off and also my mobile internet is off, unless I need either of them.
Thanks,
Ciaran
Also, it takes quite a while to connect a call.

Ciaran,
If it's any consolation, I too sometimes (NOT all the time) get a report "Unable to send after multiple attempts", but I merely put this down to network congestion. Normally if I then "Retry all", the message is despatched okay. (I bet YOU have even done the same, and sent yourself a text, "just to make sure" :-) ).
receiving MMS/SMS no problems, that I am aware of.
Hey, maybe you could reciprocate with a little "help" ??
Using Maps (Locations) (NOT the Google maps, but the "onboard" maps), and whilst navigating. You can see the actual vehicle speed at the bottom, yes? Does this always show in RED, or does it only show in RED when you exceed the speed limit (ie greater than 70mph on a m/way, dual carriageway. Greater than 30mph in a 30 zone etc). I have found that the speed display starts to display in RED if one is doing any more than about 24mph :-( Just wondered if others have the same "problem"?
Also, the weather display (on the home page). Does this animate for you?? It SHOULD do, and certainly does on my Desire, but the HD does not show any animation. Wonder if this is normal, or again an issue?
Cheers

Hi Ciaran,
Firstly, a very warm welcome to the eForum Family, it's always great to see new faces on here
.
How often do you experience issues receiving text messages? In most cases the reason that this happens is because the message centre believes that your number isn't available and so the message fails. As the message centre keeps trying to send it though, it will eventually get through.
Usually this can be resolved by forcing a network update on your SIM. The easiest way to do this is to manually select a network other than Vodafone and then re-select Vodafone, details of how to do this can be found in the network section of our HTC Desire HD Help page.
If the issue does keep persisting then I'd recommend replacing your SIM card. This can be done free of charge at your Nearest Vodafone Store.
kevinx, thanks very much for posting. As I'm not driving at the moment, I'm unable to test the speed in maps, so I'll leave that to another member of the community. In regards to the weather display, I've just tested this on our Desire HD and it doesn't animate on the main screen. When you click on it though, it does animate briefly before settling on a still image, I'd suggest this is how it's meant to behave.

George,
Thanks for that (regarding animations), but I have found something a little interesting!! You MAY wish to try this.
Okay, so the main screen wasn't animating as on my Desire (non HD). I then went Menu>Setings>Display>Animations, and switched to SOME ANIMATION (it WAS set to FULL animation). Back to the main screen, and now when I wake the phone, the weather (snowflakes presently!) DO animate across the screen. Mmm. Seems a glitch somewhere.
I have just gone back to my phone (to tell you of this setting) and I changed BACK to FULL animation.... Guess what? The animation (snow in this case) DOES show. Just for a few moments (13sec), whilst the bottom of the screen fills with snow. This IS how I was expecting it to show, from the experience with my Desire.
You may wish to try this? SOME animation 9ru it for a while) then back to FULL animation.
(weird!)
Cheers

Sorry to hijack the thread, i am having a similar issue with sms. I can be having a conversation via sms and will assume it has come to an end (no reply from other person) but then when i get a message off someone else (usually at 8am from the bank) i will recieve a message that was sent the day before and for some reason has not come through until another has coaxed it through. This has happened to me on around 15-20 different occasions now and most of them when i am at home where i have no signal issues at all.
If you say it could be a simcard issue as mine is probably 5 years old now, can i just walk into a VF store and ask for a new one, do you need to lety them know i will be coming, or can you order one for me?
Cheers

Hi Gatch
From what you've said it does sound like your issue could be one of two issue.
As you SIM card is around five years old then it can sometimes cause slight connection issues with the network, firstly I would back up all of your contacts and pop into your local vodafone store ( no prior warning required) and get a free of charge SIM replacement done.
Once done I would then test this over a week to see if the issue continues.
If the issue continues then it could be the handset that is causing the issue, at which point you will need to pop back into the Vodafone store and request a free of charge repair to be done on your handset.
Give this a go and let us know how you get on.
