My phone was charging last night and then it switched itself off.  The red light was flashing and it would vibrate 7 times.  Now I can't turn it on at all and the flashing has stopped.  I have tried charging it with the mains charger, USB, I have taken the battery out, tried hard restart - nothing seems to work.  Please help.

You either have a firmware or hardware problem. Sometimes the problem can be fixed by using technical hardware that unbricks phones. Otherwise it is a motherboard fault. This mean a likely send for repair.

As a last resort before sending it you could try powering up the phone with the Volume key down pressed. i.e. Power+Vol-. If you are lucky that might get you further through the boot process.
