HTC Desire - It Won't Connect To My Car Via Bluetooth Since 2.2 Update

I recently updated to Android 2.2 (Froyo) over the air, and since then, the Desire will not pair with my car over Bluetooth.

It connects to start with (the Bluetooth icon on the Desire changes to the 'connected' state), but then the icon changes back again after about 30 seconds, and fails to transfer the address book. If I try initiating a call from the car, that also fails.

The phone worked fine with the car prior to the Froyo update.

I have tried restarting my phone, deleting the pairing on both and then repairing them, changing the address book to SIM only, restarting the car. None of these make any difference.

I called Vodafone technical support, who put me on to HTC, who in turn said it is a known problem with 2.2 and a further update is planned "within the week" - but they were unclear when this would be rolled out by Vodafone.

Any updates gratefully received.

HTC Desire - It Won't Connect To My Car Via Bluetooth Since 2.2 Update

Hi David,

Thank you for posting. I've heard this issue mentioned previously, it seems to be a conflict between the phone's bluetooth and Wi-Fi functionality. HTC do appear to be aware, however until a full fix is put into place you'll be able to get around it by turning off Wi-Fi on your Desire when you're attempting to pair with your car kit.

Give that a go and let me know how you get on :).

Thanks for the response, but I had already tried that - ie turning off WiFi in the settings menu. Also ensuring GPS, WiFi hotspot functionality are also turned off.

I have also tried power-cycling the phone (including removing the battery), but it is still the same.

If the forthcoming update from HTC is only relating to a conflict with WiFi then this may not solve my problem after all.

Is there a way I can stop it syncing my address book (as I think this is what is causing a dropped connection)?

HTC Desire - It Won't Connect To My Car Via Bluetooth Since 2.2 Update

Hello David

As far as i am aware you would need to turn off data entirely in order to prevent syncing your contacts (and emails etc). The issue is currently with HTC and we have had no indication of when or what to expect in terms of a resolution date or fix.

Thanks

Thanks. I'll try that.

There is already an update to 2.2 for unbranded phones (listed on the HTC site). Do you have an idea when this may be rolled out to Vodafone customers?

Hi David,

Let us know how you get on.

We don't have any information on firmware release dates, but is this the update you're referring to?

I'm afraid that didn't work either.

I think that is the update - on the HTC site. There was a list of what was in this update, and one item was mention of a fix for Bluetooth pairing problems, but I can no longer find that list on their site.

HTC Desire - It Won't Connect To My Car Via Bluetooth Since 2.2 Update

I have an update on this - it has suddenly started working. I am wary of experimenting too much in case it stops again, but the only thing that has changed is over the weekend I configured and used the 'portable WiFi hotspot' software, then turned it off again.

Strange. I suspect (as others have suggested) there is a curious interaction between the WLAN and Bluetooth since the Froyo update, but it is not as simple as making sure WLAN is turned off to get BT to work - it may be to do with what you last did with it.

HTC Desire - It Won't Connect To My Car Via Bluetooth Since 2.2 Update

I'm also having problems getting my desire to connect to the Bluetooth in my Ford Mondeo. The car is new, but when I try to connect it will not work. My Desire is running 2.2
My daughter also has a desire running 2.2 and her phone connects up first time in my car.
Any suggestions?

HTC Desire - It Won't Connect To My Car Via Bluetooth Since 2.2 Update

Unfortunately mine stopped working again shortly afterwards.

I think it is something to do with Android 2.2 and syncing the address book - but may also be to do with previous state of the wireless network. I do not know for sure what has changed.

I have spoken to HTC about this twice now (it is a known fault with the first release of 2.2, which is already fixed), and apparently Vodafone have had the fix for a long time now, but have not (yet?) released it. I appreciate they may be testing the fix, or there may be more to it than just this, but keeping us in the dark and offering no solution is not acceptable.

Vodafone seem to be ignoring the issue, which is very disappointing.

I was told by 2nd tier tech support (via 191) that the update was already available, but then discovered it was not. No one at Vodafone seems to know (or at least admit to knowing), but the fault was already patched in the latest update for generic HTC phones.

I wait with (frustrated) baited breath.

Hey guys,

I'm afraid I have absolutely no idea when this reported fix will be made available.

I'll make enquiries and get back to you.

Cheers,

HTC Desire - It Won't Connect To My Car Via Bluetooth Since 2.2 Update

Hi Guys

As far as I am aware, the Vodafone 2.2 update was based on the code of the new HTC update.

We do know that different handsets and cars vary in compatibility, for example Ford haven't tested the Mondeo kit with the HTC Desire.

If any of our members can let us know what car and Bluetooth kit they are using, we'll be able to look into this in more depth. We're also looking into a pinned thread listing compatibility lists of different handsets and cars in the future.

Thanks

My car is the Ford Mondeo Titanium X 2010 model with factory fitted bluetooth. It has gone into Ford today to see if they can resolve the issue. I'll let you know how I get on.

HTC Desire - It Won't Connect To My Car Via Bluetooth Since 2.2 Update

Ford updated the car with their latest software yesterday and said I just needed to pair the phone again. Tried this, still unable to get it to connect. I'm 6 months into a 24 month contract and need the bluetooth connectivity. Will vodafone replace the handset as this issue does not seem to be fixable.

I have problems with Parrot CK3200LS-COLOR, MK6100, MKi9200. Nobody can hear me during conversation, I can hear. No problems with Nokia E65.

HTC Desire - It Won't Connect To My Car Via Bluetooth Since 2.2 Update

I'm having the same connection issues between my Desire (Android 2.2) and Audi Bluetooth. All worked fine until the 2.2 upgrade now the phone connects but drops the connection after 30 seconds or so. Nokia phones connect without any problem. Have already disables GPS and WIFI also done a full reset of the handset.

Can someone tell me when the update to fix this issue is going to be available?

Thanks

You could do worse than contact HTC. When Vodafone released the 2.2 update for the desire, it was the same as HTC's version.

HTH :)
