HTC Desire S problems

My handset keeps rebooting - often in the middle of a call and for no specific reason - any ideas as to what is causing this and how it can be fixed?

Also, I can't switch the handset off at all.  Last week I was flying to Tenerife and the only way I could power it down was to remove the battery!  Any ideas ?

Getting a bit fed up with this handset - its only 12 months old and its ages before I can upgrade but I'm not liking it.

Re: HTC Desire S problems

Hi 18annap,

There are a few things we can check which might help to clear this up, so let's run through those to start with.

Firstly, did you make any changes around the time this started happening, for example a new app or a firmware update? If there's a new app, can you try removing this and seeing if the issue resolves itself. If a firmware update, did you carry out a factory reset once you'd installed the new version?

Does it make a difference if you hold the phone a different way? This may suggest that there's an issue where pressure on the casing at a specific point is causing the phone to shut down. If you try making a call on speakerphone with the handset untouched on a table does it still disconnect?

Does the phone only disconnect during calls, or does it also reboot if you're sending a text or using an app? Similarly, is there any pattern to the calls where it happens, such as a given time into the call?

Can you try a hard reset for me to see if it clears up any software conflicts or orphan code which may be causing this?

 - Switch the handset on
 - Whilst powered up, remove the SIM card and battery
 - Put the battery back in and switch on
 - Wait a couple of minutes, then remove the battery again
 - Replace the SIM and battery and switch back on

If this does not clear things, then it may be best to back up the handset and restore the Desire C to its factory settings.

If this doesn't help, I'd recommend sending the handset for a warranty repair.

Dave

If I've helped at all today, why not leave me a little feedback?

Re: HTC Desire S problems

Thanks Dave for your suggestions.  I've installed nothing new.  I'm at work at the moment and it has just rebooted itself and the phone is just sitting on my desk not being used !  I can't actually switch it off at all (one of its other faults) so I think I'll be bringing it in for repair.

thanks

Anna
