HTC Desire - Upgrading to a Desire

Hi guys,

I'm eligible for an upgrade later in the year and I've noticed all the buzz about the Desire (also the long wait for them though). However, I'm worried the one off payment to switch to it might be hefty as my contract is only about £15 a month. Anyone know roughly what it might be?

Cheers,

Indyhotspur

Hey indyhotspur,

It’s always nice to see a customer wishing to upgrade with us and tohelp you get a quick response, all of the information you need can befound on our upgrades announcement.

Additionally I would advise using our Online upgrade tool to see whether you are able to upgrade.

Kind regards

Thanks, but I was just wondering what other people's experiences were so I know what the ball park figure will be that I'll be offered in a month or two when I upgrade.

Dont hold your breath m8 if you upgrade now you should get your handset for christmas but dont hold me to which christmas, all they seem to do when you try and get info is lock the threads and point you at a useless stock update page, i always believe that honesty is the best policy, but if the truth was told customers would go elsewhere

Hello indyhotspur

If you mean the early termination fee then it works thus:

You will pay the full line rental up to your contract end date - minus 25% and there will no VAT.

Everyone's figure is different, as you can imagine, due to the variances in contract cost and length.

Please do not take anyone else's experiences as a "ball park figure" - each customer is dealt with on an individual basis. I am sure that whatever the outcome is, you will be delighted with it.

Regarding the stock....it's a certainty to be here before 25th December...guaranteed

Take care

Hi there,

Thanks for your reply, but I wasn't referring to terminating early. I was going to wait until the end of my deal before upgrading. When i did the same at the end of my last vodafone contract, I upgraded to a Nokia 5800 free of charge and on the same contract. I was trying to find out from others' experiences if i'm likely to have to pay something towards the Htc desire handset this time around if I go for that phone as an upgrade on my £15pm contract.

Thanks

Hi again

As I stated earlier...each customer is dealt with on an individual basis.

e.g If a member posts he got handset A free of charge and you post that you were asked to pay a contribution, it would bear no relationship to me when I ask for the same handset.

Sorry I can't be more specific but it would wrong to advise anything else.

Take care

HTC Desire - Upgrading to a Desire

Hi indyhotspur,

I'm in the same position as you.
I tried the upgrade line today to try and negotiate a deal closer to £20 for the desire but was left on hold for over 20 minutes so I hung up.
I decided to use the cancelation route and as expected was speaking to someone in under 5 minutes (I think you can see who vodafone value more!).
I asked for my PAC number and was asked why I wanted it. I explained that I wanted a desire but vodfones plans were too expensive. I was offered £25 contract but I asked if there was any room for negotiation. I was told no, so I asked for my PAC number and will be spending next week looking for better deals.
Having read these forums regarding the lack of stock perhaps they have done me a favour! Still I'm a bit dissapointed that vodafone were not prepared to negotiate in the attempt to keep a customer of over 5 years.

My message to you is that you will probably have to increase you monthly payments to £25 to get the desire. You could always wait for the demand to cool down (but like me you'll probably be drawn to the next hot phone and will be back to square one!)

cheers

I know what you mean about loylty to customers but how low do you think they can go on the Desire? Where will you get one for £15 - £20 pm and not have to pay a chunk towards the phone and which may as well of gone on line rental in the first place?

The reason I was interested in the desire was due to seeing the future sister-in-laws one.
She managed to get the desire for free, with 300 minutes to all networks, 500mb download and unlimited texts for £22.50 from orange, negotiated down to that of course. Now if orange can be negotiated with, why can't vodafone?
I know I'm not going to get a desire for anything less than £20 a month at this present time but if vodafone are so inflexible in negotiating I will use this opportunity to find a provider who are a bit more flexible in the future.

Hey Guys,

As far as upgrades go, they are calculated on account by account basis, when looking at the negotiations available, it does depend on the phone, if we give a phone for free we have to recoup the cost of the phone plus make a little more to cover the cost of our customers using the network, and covering other overheads.

This is why we will have a rock bottom price of a free upgrade for each phone and can't go any lower as if we did it would mean that as a business we would be losing money and I'm sure you can appreciate, that doesn't make business sense.

Cheers for the reply. Glad someone else has experienced it before I did. Did they mention how much you'd have to pay for the handset to get a £20 option? I've been with Vodafone for more than 10 years now in all and I benefit from all the kids and wife's phones being unlimited on friends and family for £5, so I fear I'm stuck with them unless the others have a similar deal.

I wasn't offered any other option at the time. I found a deal on a mobiles web site today, £40 for the desire and £20 a month (300 minutes etc) with vodafone!
Now if you searched this deal out and maybe talk to someone other than the upgrades team at vodafone, perhaps you could negotiate a similar deal (perhaps asking for a free phone as well). If you don't ask, you don't get.

That's a great deal. I couldn't find anything that cheap with the phone less than £149 or so. How can I get that link off you? I'm guessing you're not allowed to post it on here and I can't see a private message system on here?

Search for "mobiles" on google, then select the site from the uk who's address is closest to "mobiles". You should be able to navigate to all htc desire deals.
Sorry it's cryptic but I think they delete links.

No problem, just be aware there are mixed reviews from people regarding their service.
Having said that, keep in mind what I said about negotiating with vodafone (it was worth it for me!).
