Hi there,

Same problem as here: http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/topic/63232-htc-legend-no-network-connection/

I got the phone whilst in work, so naturally connected it to the WiFi and set up my accounts (GMail, work email, FB, etc).

I knew the Vodafone SIM would activate within 24 hours, so thought I'd see if my Orange SIM would work in it (a very long shot obviously).

But now with the Vodafone SIM in it, I get told "Your SIM card does not allow connection to this network".

Tried turning on and off obviously, disabled Wifi, disabled syncing. Selected "GSM only" (all things I've read elsewhere to "fix" this). Anyway... still no joy.

Any takers?

And if you put your Orange SIM back in does it work?

Also, what software version you running on? (go to Settings>About phone>Software information>Software version)

Well if I put the Orange SIM in, I can see my contacts, see I've got a voicemail, etc. Although obviously the phone is locked to Vodafone.

If I put the Vodafone SIM in... nada

SW Version: 1.34.405.5
Android: 2.2

You're on a generic vendor code (x.xx.405.x) so it's not locked to Vodafone - or it shouldn't be.

I've seen the Desire HD now branded by T-Mobile but the software version was 1.32.405.2-T-MOB

I'd expect to see something similar for Vodafone-branded handsets, unless they're being super-sneeky

Hrm, is it possible then that the SIM simply hasn't been activated by Vodafone yet?

Very much so, can you not make calls on the Orange SIM?

Update; I can make calls from my Orange SIM in this device. So... those imbeciles at CPW need to make sure they activated the Vodafone SIM, I guess?

Update: Stuck the Vodafone SIM in my (ancient) Orange Nokia, says: "SIM card registration failed". Bah.

Chances are the Orange phone IS SIM locked, though (Orange do that a lot)

Call Vodafone and see what's going on

At least you know your Z is unbranded so update come straight from HTC

On a related note, download this and keep it somewhere on your PC - you never know when you need to reflash the stock ROM and reset the phone...

I haven't actually sorted it yet - I've been ridiculously busy. I went back to CPW and they said "oh sometimes it does take a while", and that was the last I tried. Intending to go back and be a bit shouty today!

I've been using the Desire with my Orange SIM, hehe forgot about the data traffic... costly mistake
