HTC Desire keeps crashing and rebooting

My 1 year old HTC Desire has started crashing several times per day, usually when I am using the internet browser but often at other times and for no apparent reason. This is irrespective of whether I am using WiFi / 3G / bluetooth or no data and is not affected by whether or not the phone is on charge. I have Version 2.2 of the op system software which I updated last summer.
Each time I get the white screen of death followed by a soft reboot with the "HTC quietly brilliant (yeah, right)" screen. Its doing my head in. Is there anything I can do? Is it too much to expect a phone to work for more than 1 year these days?

My phone does that occasionally when it gets quite hot! Internet is a large battery drain so might be it's just overheating?

there is a thread on here about this over heating and rebooting problem, something to do with the mother board i think, my desire is over a year old, but phoned htc and they picked it up for repair with in 24 hours.
A lot of people have complained about this fault.

It's apparently a motherboard issue and VERY common, I'll be on my 3rd Desire when this one arrives back from HTC, I found this issue worse when using mobile internet, using GPS (google map etc) and sending MMS

I too get this, can only assume its overheating as if it does it once and I carry on using it it continues to redo it.

Does the crashing (or Force Closes) still happen after you have done a Factory Reset?
A soft reboot isn't great (better than a hard reboot) and it can be caused by an incompatible or poorly coded app.
Try a backup first, then a factory wipe and see if the issues still occur. If yes then you can try re-flashing the firmware. If it still happens then you have a good case for a replacement handset.

This is happening to me, had my phone the best part of two months and it keeps crashing even when fully charged.
How do I go about contacting Vodafone to send for a replacement? I am on a 18month contract but didnt take out any insurance? Am I entitled to any help?
In all the years of having Blackberrys I never had the problems I have had with this phone and i will never go with HTC again.

What programs are crashing Essexscot? Any error messages? Without much background information it becomes more difficult to troubleshoot and nip this in the bud ^_^
I would first see if there is a software update available to your phone and take it from there.

Are all of your apps upto date? Also was you on any flash based websites when it does it? Flash 10.2 was causing problems for some and causing the phone to do soft reboots or restart sense. Flash 10.3 is out now to cure that problem.
Before you do an hard reset back up anything that you want to keep and is not on your sd card ie: Sms / mms messages.

this is not a software fault, this is a problem to do with the motherboard over heating as a result not being able to cope with demand.
Hard resets do not solve the problem.
According to HTC my phone has been fixed and should be back with in a couple of days, so we will soon see.

my phone came back from HTC today repaired , but have no idea what was wrong with it or what was fixed as there were no documents with it.
Ive put it through its paces and it is getting warm but no where near as hot as it was and hasnt rebooted yet, touch wood,
The only thing that is different is the IMEI number, does that mean they changed the motherboard?

Mine gets warm from using the internet or gps but its never restarted. At a guess they have either replaced the lot or just the motherboard. Will of been a dodgy board.
