Hiya, I've had the desire hd since October and never once noticed it disconnect from my WiFi at home but since the last update it is disconnecting and reconnecting again all the time. Also the clock has been playing up with changing time but that seems to be ok since I pulled the battery. I have seen other posts on this but I'm not sure what to do with my router as I don't know much about the settings on them. I have one from Virgin media. Can somebody explain what I need to do please? Many thanks!
If you are having a few problems since the update id backup evrything thats not on the sd card and do a factory reset and that way you start with a clean slate. For the clock issue, there was a problem a week or so ago with Htc's servers been out and this affected Htc Handsets all over the world. Mine kept jumping 10 minutes.

Just a thought. Is the router you have from Virgin Media the Superhub by any chance? If so some are have problems with them like the signal dropping off for no reason. It's been well documented on other websites and Virgin's own forum. But I have also heard of WiFi problems since the Gingerbread update. Again some seem effected, others are not. As said try a factory reset and see if that helps.

Settings > Accounts and Sync. Click on your main Gmail address and tick the Sync Contacts box. Click on the Sync Now button on the bottom left to force a sync. Refresh your computer's browser and it should shortly appear.
For backups you can use loads of free apps...

It might also be worth testing out the signal strength of your Wireless connection using an app called WiFi Analyzer - https://market.android.com/details?id=com.farproc.
That will tell you if you're getting a strong enough signal from your router or not.

It will also show any other wifi signals near you that may be on the same channel and causing problems too.

I stumbled across this while researching the WiFi issue on my DHD. I'm a little shocked that no-one realises this is a known issue which HTC have promised a fix for. 2.3.3 has a bug in it which has partially broken WiFi connectivity on the DHD. It seems that if your WiFi signal drops below 88 decibels it seamlessly switches over to your mobile network.
In practice this means places where WiFi used to be securely connected, it either won't connect or it will 'float in and out'.
So no matter what you do to your phone, or indeed your router, it will not resolve this basic flaw in Gingerbread.
My question to Vodafone is what pressure can you put on HTC to speed up the fix? They've promised me they're working on it, but meanwhile we're unknowingly eating up data allowances while we think we're safely on our home routers.

HURRAH! Someone else who understands the issue, Trevor I could hug you! ![]()
I've been trying to get Vodafone and hence HTC to acknowledge this issue for nearly two months now, here's the thread: http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/HTC-Devices/Any-HTC
This issue is now present in the Desire S, Desire HD and Sensation, and probably soon to be in the Desire too. Those phones with generally weaker wifi reception, most notably the DS and to a lesser extent the Sensation, will suffer more. Who knows how it'll affect the up coming Evo 3D too, lets hope it has a good aerial! I really think it's in all our interest that they sort it out
VF have now said they'll raise it to their device team, but I don't know how much attention it'll get because it's relatively few users who have the issue and have connected the dots, correctly identifying it as this issue.
The more users describing the issue will add weight, so could you possibly do so in the thread I linked to please Trevor?
Cheers! ![]()

Here are some links to sites I discovered weeks ago:
http://androidforums.com/desire-hd-support-trouble
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/
http://androidforums.com/desire-hd-support-trouble
Today HTC told me that they still do not have a fix but are working towards it. My advice is to report the fault on HTC's support page and not accept any nonsense they may throw back at you. Today a so-called support technician there suggested that I should try switching off the password on my router to make it an open network and see if that improved matters. Of course I didn't, but I already know the problem when on an open network in an hotel.
I've not harassed VF too much as it's a manufacturer problem. I would like them to push HTC for a solution though.

Clearly the issue is with the handset & not the router or signal
HTC - pls fix, as it worked fine before you broke it

Hi guys,
As has been mentioned, we've been looking into this issue on the thread that Mr_H linked to, and whilst focussing on getting details from that one we've managed to miss this thread taking place for the same issue.
At this time we haven't received any notification from HTC to confirm an issue along these lines, so we cannot confirm this, but we're continuing to get details from customers so we can keep passing them to our technicians to investigate. If we can pin down the issue and confirm customers are being affected this will help us getting it escalated for a fix.
Mr_H - The matching 88db does suggest a link to your issues here which wasn't so apparent before. Rather than handling it as a separate issue, I’ll get this merged in with the others.
salmonpincher and nataliejane - I'll pop you an email to get your details regarding this issue - as I have mentioned on the other thread, the more cases, the better for investigating.
TrevorC - Just checking back on my records, I notice that I've not emailed you yet to get any details of you for this case - Do you mind if I pop you an email as well to help bolster the cases? I realise you've spoken with HTC, but if you can help us to confirm things, we can go to them with more evidence of how our customers are affected.

Hi Dave,
It's great to see VF trying to get stuck into these issues that affect us
In case you missed my previous posts on the subject:
Tuesday's firmware update for the Desire S fixed the wifi disconnect at -88dBm issue
Please see here: http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/HTC-Devices/Any-HTC
If you can feedback that it has made a big difference, and you've got at least one very happy customer! ![]()
Cheers

Hi Mr_H,
That is great news - I'll pass that on for you, certainly!
In the meantime, I'll close this thread and direct everyone to the main one so that we have everything in one place from now on.
If you're happy with how I'm handling the issue at this end, please take a few seconds to give me some feedback!
