SD Card problem

Hi,

My Desire HD no longer recognises the SD card that has been in the phone from the start.

It just stopped being detected. I've not taken it out, dropped phone or anything like that, it just all of a sudden stopped being detected.

I have tried another SD card in the phone which seems to work OK. Does this mean it is just a card failure, or possibly a problem with the phone?

Obviously I had pictures/ apps etc on the card which I would like to retrieve if possible.

If I start from scratch with my new SD card what is the best way to back it up?

Was there any "system files" on my old app that will affact the phone operation, other than apps etc.

Thanks if you can melp with all my daft questions :smileysad:

Re: SD Card problem

Hi,

If another card is detecting in the phone then chances are it's a problem with the card itself and it might have become corrupt. The only other check I'd do here is if you've got a USB card reader try the card that isn't working in that and see if you can view that way on your computer (plenty of card readers on Google, just need to match up the correct make and model when you buy)

I'd go along with the Card Reader options to back up too - if you buy then it's really simple to place your card in the USB reader, plug into your PC and create a folder to back up on your hard drive (you can also do this by plugging your device into a PC via USB cable, going into Start > My Computer and reading the phone memory and card from there - I tend to prefer the reader option though as it's easier to carry around :smileyhappy: )

Re: SD Card problem

I have had the same problem happen to me today too. I remember updating the phone yesterday 29th dec 2010. And some time earlier today the sd card that came with the phone stopped being recognised. I too have not dropped it, taken it out or done anything like that. Very strange!

Re: SD Card problem

It did cross my mind that it may be something to do with the update.

Re: SD Card problem

Hi UKMustard,

I'm pleased to see it looks like this fixed things for you? So that we can feed this back into the business, can you let me know what steps you took to get it working exactly? This will help in case we see any more people experiencing the same issue you see.

Also, Dreth, have you had any luck in getting yours working?

Thanks,

Tom

Re: SD Card problem

I had exactly the same problem 2 days after I got tyhe phone.

Whilst I was using the camcorder mode, it stopped and was no longer recognised by my pohone or my partners HTC Desire Z either.  Obviously it was corrupted somehow.

I didn't have a huge amount of files on it, but I am concerned that as it came with the phone (8Gb card) I now have to spend £15-£20 for another 8Gb card.  Bit of a pain when I got one for free with the phone.

Also, I was considering buying a 32Gb or 64Gb (if compatible) so I can store movies on the phone, but if they are going to get corrupted at random times, I don't wsnt to be paying £100 ish for a 64Gb card each time.

Is there any fix for this being looked into?

Thanks

Hi mikeymay,

Yes, we're looking into this. That's why I'd asked for the information above. I'm hopeful of a reply from UKMustard and Dreth soon :smileyhappy:

Re: SD Card problem

I had this same issue with my Desire HD, I had an 8gb memory card which I was using with my previous hand set. I had dropped the phones so assumed that was what had caused the dismounting issue but purchased a new 16gb card which worked fine. I gave my onld 8gb card to a friend who has the Desire and he hasn't had any problem with the card so perhaps it is an issue with the DHD? From reading the comments maybe the DZ also?

Re: SD Card problem

Im glad to see im not the only person who has had this exact same problem!! but am disappointed that when I went in to the store I was told that this was not a know fault and made to feel I was lying to the salesman in store and now have lost a 8GB memory card and was given an emphasised as a "good will gesture" a 4GB memory card which is pathetic. Could vodafone please pass what seems to be a known fault onto there stores as its on there forum?!!

could anyone please tell me if this will happen to the new memory card I put in?

Thanks
