Unlock issues with HTC Desire

I have the unlock code for my HTC Desire and want to use a Lebara sim for a period. I have follwoed the instructions as far as I can:

1. Insert the SIM card that you wish to use in the handset.
2. Switch handset on.
3. Display will prompt to enter the Unlock Code.
4. Enter 76094830.
5. Press OK.
6. The handset will now be unlocked

However, I do not get promted to enter the Unlock Code. I sometimes get a screen which says "Select your carrier" and a list of 6 carriers (ASDA, BT, Vodafone, Talkmobile varieties), but not Lebara.

I have also tried with a Tesco pay as you go sim and get the same message. I can then choose Tesco PAYG but still don't get prompted to enter an Unlock code.

Please help!

Re: Unlock issues with HTC Desire

Hi seasonprater,

I'm moderating at the moment, but thanks for clarifying the handset is the Desire HD.

Someone will be along to help you as soon as possible.

Re: Unlock issues with HTC Desire

Hi seasonprater

Thanks for your post.

I'm a little confused as to why you're not able to unlock the phone as the NUC appears to be correct :smileyindifferent:.

I know this might sound a little silly but are you sure that you're entering the code correctly?

I'd recommending popping into your Local Store with the code and see if they can have a quick look at it for you :smileyhappy:.

Let me know how you get on.

Re: Unlock issues with HTC Desire

Thanks for your message.

I'm getting as far as being able to enter the code - I am not being prompted at all.  I get a choice of carriers, none of which are the sim which I'm trying to use. I even tried a tesco sim as it was one of the carriers offered, but I still don't get prompted for the NUC number but the sim still doesn't work.

Re: Unlock issues with HTC Desire

Hi seasonprater

Thanks for your post here.

Hmmm, this is a strange one. Have you tried just entering the code regardless? If so what happens?

Would you be able to visit a store at all as they will be able to take a look at the phone to make sure everything is working correctly

Thanks

Wayne

Re: Unlock issues with HTC Desire

I too have the same issue. No prompt to enter the NUC provided to me by Vodafone when i place an Orange or O2 sim in my Desire HD. I've tried a factory reset too but still no luck.

Is there a way of forcing the unlock prompt to appear?

Re: Unlock issues with HTC Desire

Hi sunnyboora and welcome to the eForum

Thanks for your post here. I'm sorry to hear that you aren't getting the option to input the code. Have you tried just inputting the code anyway? Regardless of if you get a prompt?

Please let me know and we'll be happy to help you further

Thanks

Wayne

Re: Unlock issues with HTC Desire

I get exactly the same problem as the original poster. The phone never gets as far as asking me to input an unlock code so it is futile to ask if you've tried putting it in anyway. Any other suggestions?

Re: Unlock issues with HTC Desire

I couldn't workout how to unlock my Vodafone Desire HD. After inserting the Giffgaff SIM instead of asking me for an unlock code, it would recognise there was a new sim, give me a choice of network but remain locked to Vodafone.

However I just discovered that with the Giffgaff SIM in the phone and the phone switched on I attached it via USB to my PC with HTC sync running (but I just wanted to charge the phone). The phone then displayed the Giffgaff logo and on disconnecting from the PC it now works on Giffgaff without me ever using an unlock code. Hope this may work for others.

Re: Unlock issues with HTC Desire HD

Hi

I too have the HTC DHD and I'm experiencing the same problem.

I insert a Talkmobile sim in to my HTC DHD and turn it on.

I'm not prompted to enter the unlock code.

I get no signal and the normal "Enter password to unlock" the phone and not the network unlock prompt.

Any thoughts??

Re: Unlock issues with HTC Desire

I've tried entering the code anyway but it not working either.

Any way of forcing the prompt up?

Or any other suggestions??

Re: Unlock issues with HTC Desire

Hi sunnyboora,

Can I ask if you have tried a standard network SIM into the phone such as O2 or orange or T-mobile?

DO you get the same issue?

The reason I ask is that as TalkMobile is classed as a MVNO it means that they run on other networks which can sometimes cause a few issues when unlocking the phone.

If you can give this a try, please let me know how you get on.

James

Re: Unlock issues with HTC Desire---SOLVED

Hello guys,

I had the exact same problem! and i mean exact, i didnt know whether my htc was unlocked or not, therfore if it doesnt prompt you for a unlock code then it means it unlocked, the way it worked for me was that i inserted the sim and took out the memory card, then restart your htc (resart all apps) then it should come up (try it a few times) then insert your memory card, then resart it again (few times) the sim should then work and come up! :smileyhappy:)
