htc desire gps help

Hi I have a htc desire hd.

I tried to use my navigation but it was always way off where I was.

I have looked through all the forums and dwnloaded gps test and it showed no Satelites.

I have gps enabled and the icon is flashing green, however it does not go off if I disable GPS.

I have done a soft reset back to factory default and tried to reset the gps as described in other forums.

Not sure if it has ever worked and yes tried it without the cover disabled the screensaver and left it for twenty mins.

It seems this is a commom fault with earlier desires

Re: htc desire gps help

I guess you updated or have a Desire with the latest firmware?

Hi stevebadgery

I'm sorry to hear about your GPS issue on the Desire HD. :smileysad:

We do have an ongoing issue with this, that is related to the new firmware update for the device. We do have an ongoing thread dedicated to this issue which you can find here.

Any updates we get on this issue will be updated on the main thread.

Regards

Have you enabled A-GPS so you can get a faster lock?

Settings > Location > Use wireless networks

This will help speed up GPS lock times as it will download data which will help speed up the GPS lock. First, we need to make sure your GPS is working fine so pop outside and enable your GPS so it gets a lock (solid and not blinking GPS icon). You can then use an app called GPS Status for a detailed look - https://market.android.com/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2&feature=search_result

If it all looks good there, open up Google Maps and your location should be accurate. If so then your GPS module is all working fine. Now you can turn off your GPS and try your navigation again for a test run to see how it works.

Also do not forget that when you have finished with Navigation you have to explicitly *exit* it! Simply pressing Back or Home will just enable multi-tasking and won't exit the app. You have to press Menu > Exit Navigation.

EDIT: Is your phone the HTC Desire HD? Did you run the update recently? If so then the update provided by Voadafone broke the GPS software - http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/HTC-Desire-Series/Latest-update-to-version-2-50-161-2-has-broken-GPS-...

Re: htc desire gps help

I couldn't find a Vodafone RUU floating around the net so only Vodafone themselves could revert it back to an older version. I'm sure though that if the VF RUU gets leaked or is available either myself, Eddy or another member will post it up.
