htc desire poor memory

the internal memory of my htc desire is a problem that spoils an otherwise excellent phone i clear the cache ,history ,emails texts all the time but the memory keeps falling and often gets so low that i cannot open the gallery i have uninstalled all the apps i don't need and have now had to uninstall ones i would rather keep i have moved what few apps you can to the card i often cannot update the apps i have due to lack of space

as it stands i am stuck with a phone i cannot download any new apps which rules out sky go when its ready what annoys me most is that vodafone knew this handset had very limited memory compared to other smart phones but never mentioned it when selling it to me ,we have to have these phones for two years i can't see mine lasting that long

Re: htc desire poor memory

Hi dowsinho,

I’m sorry that you are having issues with the memory of your phone however the easiest resolution for this would be to purchase a larger memory card for the phone and transfer the apps to your SD card.

To do this you may need to delete some of the apps from the phone and install a new app called app2sd which will then transfer everything to the SD card for you and free up the phone memory.

Re: htc desire poor memory

James, James, James, James,

Please read dowsinho post carefully, they have already moved the apps they can move to the SD card.

Also they have a HTC Desire which already has the ability to move apps to the SD card

app2sd will only work with those apps that can be moved to an SD card, a lot of the pre-installed apps, the ones that use up a lot of internal memory, can not be moved.

As above...

It's the only real way to use the Desire in a decent manner

Yep - what they said above - rooting will sort things out. Made mine like a new phone.

Re: htc desire poor memory

Memeory has allways been HTC's down side and has caused problems with high end whey they neve put enough in is behond me

The strange thing is at most 1G is enoght but HTC only put 500MB

Ram plays a massive part in phones

and Manufactered Bloatware and Network Bloatware makes things worce

How many apps Have you got on the phone that You have put on ?

And have they all been transfered to sd

If a app has not got the transfer to sd then Get shut as this will hog the phone

Many of HTC phones could not even run Angry Birds

eg Wildfire/Legand  the wildfire had to be uprated to run it

HTC Build realy good phones they are only now putting memory on the sensation but then you need the xe or xl

Re: htc desire poor memory

Transferring apps to SD works.. a bit. I still found even using the hack to force apps to SD that I was short of space.

Since rooting recently I have all the apps I wanted.. even those I'd been forced to delete and still show over half my internal  memory free. I have a fast and stable phone.

Android Forums is a good starting point.

Re: htc desire poor memory

I agree.. XDA is the only place for ROMS.. however for someone new to rooting Android Forums have great guides and friendly members.

XDA is as you say more advanced.. currently  I'm running MildWild's Ocygen ROM.. fast.. stable.. decent battery life... and with A2SD I've room for all my apps and more!

teppics sense rom is a great starting point for those who wish to increase memory but keep the full gingerbread/sense feel.

I have always been an XDA fan, and get all my info from there. I find Android Forums far too simple but then again I like to get blunt answers without the sugar coating!

Re: htc desire poor memory

james

as i wrote i have moved what few apps i can to the card using app2sd and i have a larger (8gb) sd card the point i am making is that in my opinion vodafone have knowingly sold me a phone that is clearly not up to the job and i am stuck with it for two years

if i go down the road of rooting i will invalidate the guarantee

i have suggested that i would have no problem with starting a new two year contract with vodafone with a phone without the memory problems but i'm told i must pay out the rest of this contract(9 months) maybe vodafone are not alone in taking this stance but having been a vodafone customer for at least 10 years i don't know how the others operate

I doubt that Vodafone mis-sold you on purpose, any research into the phone prior to purchase would've highlighted the issues. Having said that, although rooting does invalidate your warranty it's VERY easy to un-do the process should you need to send the phone in for repair

Re: htc desire poor memory

Rooting does NOT invalidate your warranty.

HTC will honour warranty on the unbranded 2.3.3 RUU available on HTCdev.com

Rooting SO invalidates your warranty. The 2.3.3 RUU was released and has the Vodafone CID in it so it's a valid update for Vodafone-branded handsets (It covers all branded and unbranded Desire handsets). You can use the RUU to unroot the phone should you need to send it in but sending it in on a custom ROM would come straight back to you without being fixed

Re: htc desire poor memory

ok Eddy.. I admit I was oversimplifying it somewhat. I was just trying to backup what you had said and reassure dowsinho.

Whilst Rooting does neccesarily inavlidate your warranty -  you can reverse rooting and install an RUU which is accepted by HTC for warranty repairs.

Dowsinho also said this - "otta lovhow htc virtually say that this process could render your phone useless doesn't inspire confidence.....and is only for phones from 2011 "

I'm not sure where you are reading this. the older desires are generally easier to root than the newer ones. Please read about this on the forums mentioned previously. There are many methods available.. and the "official" HTC methods may not be the best ones.
