Can't turn network off

So playing with my new phone, i keep notice the Wifi signal is low, check settings and it say excellant. So to make sure my phone is using WiFi and not the data from network I go to turn my network off. This is where is gets intresting. the button say off, and the text below the Moblie Network says the network is off, but my bars are still showing strnght and I can still make and recieve calls. Even when i go to pull down my notifications, it say Vodafone UK (i would have thought if I wasn't connected to a network this would be blank, Also should it not tell me which Wifi network i'm on here as well)

anyway, does anyone else have these issues, or is it just me. the network goes off when i put it in Airplane mode, but when I just turn it off, it says its off, but I could still make cals and send text messages.

Look forward to your responses

It would be really useful to see some screen captures of what you are trying to explain.

To take a screen capture, Press power + Vol Down at the same time.

Re: Can't turn network off

Hi Animated

Your phone is working fine.

The bars you see still allow your phone to make calls.

Just to the side of these bars, when mobile network is on for data there will usually be a letter , either G, H, or E.

These relate to the mobile data. When this letter if not showing then your phone cannot use data from Vodafone , but will still allow it to make calls.

Its there to allow people who do not have a data plan to still allow calls to be made.

Airplane mode shuts down everything.

Hope this helps

DJ

Re: Can't turn network off

Just on other phones I have had, when you turn of the network, you turn off the network No calls, txt messages or data. Here, I turn off the network and i can still make calls and recieve text messages. that is not right.

Also i do not have any of those letter next to the bar when the netowrk is on or off.

Re: Can't turn network off

Hello Duckjam,

I have just had a nother play, and I can't see the letters as thats where the Wifi icon is. Turned that off and bingo theres the letters. Then turned off the network and bngo, no data but calls allowed.

i find this very strange, has as I said above if you selct to turn network off, then you become completly disconected.

thanks for your help. have been a BB user up to now, so feel i may be on here with lots of other pointless stupid questions.

Thanks :smileyvery-happy:

Re: Can't turn network off

Hi Animated,

I'm not sure how BB works but I've added some pics below to explain what things should look like on your HTC One X when things are off/on.

I hope this helps!

Pic 1) This is just phone calls only (The 5 bars). No WiFi and no Data tuned on.

Pic 2) This is with WiFi turned ON - NOT ADDED no wifi where I am to connect to and capture a pic. Will add one later if you need it.

Pic 3) This is with Data turned ON (It may display 3G or H above the arrows depending on your connection - H is faster)

Pic 4) this is Airplane mode - this stops ALL WIRELESS (as far as I know anyway!) data forms including wireless data, phone calls etc

[ Edited ]

This would be pic 2 - with WiFi turned on.

(Wouldn't let me edit previous - is it timed?)

Hopefully the pictures along with the info others have said on here should clear things up! :smileyhappy:
