Re: HTC One S poor signal

You can add me to list the of annoyed HTC One S owners on Vodafone... really bad signal problems, just randomly lose signal all the time, and generally only get 2 bars at best.

What software version are you currently running.
4.0.3     1.78.401.2

Does the signal loss happen in all locations?

Very weak in BN14 8HR, randomly drops any time, any place. Best is generally 2 bars. Was also very week with dropouts on recent trip to Bath.

What Postcodes do you have this issue?

BN14 8HR

Does this affect 2G and 3G?

Don't see any improvement on 2G.

Re: HTC One S poor signal

[ Edited ]

Just a follow on from my previous post, I think in fact there is slight improvement in the signal strength if I set it to 2G only. On 3G, it hovers between 0 - 2 bars, on 2G it does sometimes settle on 3 bars (and the stats are better). Not a conclusive test as I can't stare at these stats all day, but there's enough there that tells me there is definite improvement. Don't know if that helps at all.

Of course on 2G you get the home button bug, so it doesn't really help much!

Re: HTC One S poor signal

You can add me to the list, literally get zero signal all around my house, often has 2-3 bars then drops to none in the exact same location. 100% network/software fault after looking at other forums talking about domancy rates etc etc. No matter where i go i cant get more than 3 bars of signal (out of 5)

Re: HTC One S poor signal

I have had a  HTC One S for about 6 weeks now and have also noticed the terrible signal problems. I live and work in London where the signal coverage is supposed to be good indoors (confirmed to the vodafone coverage web page). I previously had a Blackberry and had no problems with signal either at home or at work.

With my HTC I find that my signal drops to nothing for no reason, mostly at home but I have had problems in central London as well. It is getting very frustrating but from all the messages posted here it is not a location problem, but instead being a phone issue. My partner has an older HTC (cannot remember the model) but he has no signal problems at home so I know it is my phone.

To answer the questions posted before

What software version are you currently running.

Android 4.0.3 HTC sense 4.0 Software number 1.53.161.3

Does the signal loss happen in all locations?

YES

What Postcodes do you have this issue?

N13 5NP

Does this affect 2G and 3G?

YES

Re: HTC One S poor signal

Update!

I requested a normal sim card from VF which arrived today, rang Customer Services to get it activated, and was done over the phone in minutes.
Inserted sim card into a 6 year old samsung handset. Switched it on, loaded up, and guess what, I have full signal at home, whereas with the HTC One S for the past month I had nothing at all, and pretty poor signal anywhere else for that matter.
So I know that the handset has a massive issue with its internal anntenae or hardware.
HTC are to collect my handset early next week, so that they can investigate and correct this problem.

This is just a nightmare, and I hope to God gets sorted out soon.

Re: HTC One S poor signal

[ Edited ]

I picked up a HTC One S on Wednesday and I too am suffering from a very poor signal.

I was using a Sony Experia Mini which is running on giffgaff / o2 and I have 4 / 4 bar signal and a solid H lock.

With the phones side by side the One S is lucky to sit on 2 / 5 bars and just randomly moves between H, 3G and E.

I have tried the HTC One S in my home, at work and out and about and the poor signal is repeated in each place.

I am getting a replacment on Monday but alas I am not holding out much hope for an improved signal, pity as the One S is an excellent phone.

My phone is on Vodafone via TalkMobile

Re: HTC One S poor signal

Whilst I've been a huge fan of HTC handsets and Android in past few years. I'm gutted with the new models and the list of issues thay are suffering.
If I was you, I'd consider exchanging the handset for another manufacturer, before you are stuck like me and countless others with useless lump of plastic and metal in your pocket.

Re: HTC One S poor signal

Why are the software numbers different on people's mobiles? Surely they should all be the same?

Re: HTC One S poor signal

Hi, just purchased a HTC One S on Vodafone network. Same problem as everyone else, very poor signal, no signal at home. If we put the sim card in another phone (Blackberry) problem solved. Do you know when this issue is going to be resolved. Very unhappy with first HTC.

Re: HTC One S poor signal

I recieved my One S on Friday 15th June and have also noticed that the signal strength is appalling.  Previous phone was a Samsung Galaxy S (on Vodafone) and I had no issues at all wih 3g signal at home and at work.  I now have an intermittent 3g signal at home and none at my desk at work.  The phone also seems to be reluctant to switch to 2g and instead hangs doing absolutely nothing with 'H' showing and the upwards pointing arrow constantly 'on'.  If I manually switch to 2g (since the phone doesn't seem to do this automatically) then it works better, but the signal is still intermittent with apps and websites timing out.  I can't help but be reminded of my old HTC Magic 2 which had the same issues when switching between 3g/2g.  Surely HTC can't STILL be producing phones with the same issues?

Everywhere, but home is S9 and work is S10.

Re: HTC One S poor signal

Sadly, my One S also has massive signal problems. The signal is far worse than the Desire it replaced.

It's almost certainly a hardware/software issue rather than a network one, as I went up to the Lake District the other week with a friend who has a Desire S on VF and he consistently had a much better signal.

It seems very random in what the display shows, just picked it up now and held it still, was showing two bars initially, then dropped to no signal, then to full bars, then back to two. I have No Signal Alert running and the log shows the signal has been dropped three times in the last hour alone, despite the phone not moving.

I also find it reluctant to drop down to G from 3G, it would rather sit with no bars showing (but not dropping to no signal) than switch to G.

4.0.3 / 1.78.401.2

Re: HTC One S poor signal

Do other people get the 'H' showing so the phone thinks it has HSDPA, with several bars, but then nothing actually works that requires data?  My phone sticks with H/3g and the left arrow showing bright, but nothing happens and it won't shift to 2g unless I do it manually.

I tried Phones4u where I bought the phone this lunchtime and after trying to fob me off with the old network issues explanation they did a sim swap for me after trying my sim in another One S handset and getting the same.  They concluded that it must be the sim.  It took a while for the new sim to activate so I wasn't in the shop when it did, but it's exactly the same.  So I therefore conclude that it's the phone.

There's clearly an issue with HTC One S - I wish HTC would acnkowledge that and either fix it or replace the phone with one that's fit for purpose.

Re: HTC One S poor signal

I just upgraded to HTC One S, and it seems the Internet worked for a while but suddenly (after a software upgrade?) everything stopped. No matter what I do, or where I am, there is no Internet connectivity.

I am a customer of Vodafone for 6 years and, if they can't fix this, naturally I will request the cancelation of my contract, as Vodafone is not fulfilling their obligations.

Re: HTC One S poor signal

I have had my HTC One S for a couple of weeks and have had real issues with signal strength - at home and outside.  Before I had a Blackberry (ugh) but it had no reception issues at all.....Vodafone should at least send us all a free SureSignal to use at home...this is really a problem.   Not much point having a great phone if you cant use it.

Re: HTC One S poor signal

I have been with Vodafone (specifically moved from Orange who had NO signal anywhere) for a good few years now, so when I upgraded my HTC Wildfire to the One S, I didn't expect the One S to not have any signal after having fab signal with the Wildfire.

I don't get signal anywhere... It drops out all the time, randomly. Love the phone, BUT... I can hardly use it as a phone as it never has any signal!

I was given a sim converter in a Vodafone shop to try the sim in my Wildfire - Surprise surprise, no signal issues so it most definitely is the phone.....

Re: HTC One S poor signal

Just gotten my HTC One S from Carphone Warehouse on the Talkmobile deal (£16/mnth unlimited data).

Had read various comments about the signal problems on HUKD website, but wanted to try for myself.

Unfortunately, it appear my handset also suffers from the low signal issue.

I live in the west of Newcastle upon Tyne, and get 2-3 bars of signal, with a 3g or H mobile internet connection.

I work in North Shields, and today my signal is 1-2 bars, and dropping altogether, and mobile internet wavers between G and E, and is barely useable.

The signal strength figures are -103 dBm 6 asu, and GPRS.

I updated it last night to software version: 1.78.401.2

I really wanted this handset, and will be gutted if I have to take it back.

Any ideas if there is an update/fix on the way?

Cheers
