Has vodafone requested HTC lock down security on the device.

HI Guys

I need to know if you requested HTC to lock down the security on these devices for your customers?

Thanks

Hi gmcordell,

What do you mean by 'lock down'?

I mean as in locked down the security of the phone otherwise refferred to as s-on and s-off.  Android as standard gives root and s-off access to the whole of the system.  HTC have locked down the s-off and root on this phone i wanted to know if this was requested by Vodafone.

I would assume this would have been HTC's decision.

I remember reading that they won't be allowing users to unlock the bootloaders on the 'One' handsets so I can only assume this goes along with that decision

I'm open to be corrected though.

Of course not, the unbranded phones are the same. You can unlock the bootloader to root the phone/use a custom ROM but there is some doubt as to whether HTC will honour the warranty once you've done this. They're meant to for a hardware fault but people on XDA have run into HTC saying unlocking the bootloader forgoes the WHOLE warranty

HTC informed me the main reason the systems locked down is as carriers requested the phone to be set this way.  They are unable to provide s-off access as the carrier does not want there users to have this access.

That's a load of rubbish - it'd be all over the Internet if that was the case!

Plus, it would mean the unbranded handsets could be S-OFF'd (which they can't). Review handsets went out S-OFF but not retail units (bar a few that slipped the net)

Hi gmcordell,

I've done some digging on this to get a definitive answer for you.

Vodafone have not requested the security on these handsets to be locked down. This decision would have been taken by HTC themselves.

It HTC which have chosen to lock down their phones, although they do give you the chance to unlock the boot loader by going to http://htcdev.com/ but it does cause some warranty issues
