Thank god I have seen this thread!
I only received my HTC One S last Saturday (5 May 2012) - the first couple of days were fine but since then I have experience the home screen button issue on a number of occasions, as well as the row of buttons at the bottom of the screen being unresponsive. At first I thought it may have been because I have brushed the screen or caught a button but it did it the other day when it was just sitting on the arm of the chair so nothing was touching it. I know a couple of people have mentioned about there being a possible link with the internet however some of the worst occasions for me have been when playing Angry Birds and also when I was trying to end a phone call so I was not connected to the internet either time. I tried a factory reset last night but have found that the same issues have occured today.
I'm an O2 customer but purchased the phone through Phones4U so I aim to try contacting Phones4U, O2 and HTC after seeing that a number of people are experiencing the same problems.

For at least 6 months, it's up to the retailer to demonstrate it wasn't faulty when purchased (beyond that, you have to demonstrate it was faulty when purchased). The retailer must repair or replace the faulty product. A phone should reasonably be expected to function properly for at least 2 years (and, after all, that is the usual contract time for a given phone).

After 7 repeat conversations, 3 store visits, etc. I have arranged for a new phone to be sent to me, and I will be sending the old phone back. Hopefully the new one I get works! I don't know why HTC hasn't just sent all of us who are having these difficulties, replacement phones already!

Just had an awful time dealing with Vodafone. Basically, I have had the phone for 18 days now, so they will not exchange it for a new one. The only option I have is to send it in for it to be 'fixed' (although from my understanding- they don't know how!) . Is there even a point in this as it will take two weeks and from what I get from both Vodafone and HTC themselves is that they haven't been able to replicate it/fix the issue. I am getting super frustrated at this point and don't know what else to do. I thought I would be able to just receive a new one and give this one back. Any help/ideas?

Hi there coppolaj87,
Thanks for your post.
I'm sorry but beyond the initial seven days we are within our rights to repair the handset if we deem so. We may make the choice to replace it but this is only at our discretion.
At this point I'd have to direct you to our repairs thread for more information on what to do next.
Cheers,
Lee

Just a quick update from me.... No problems following WCDMA only switch... Got to say though reception on my phone is quite poor. I'm guessing this is as a result of the switch. Just updated software to 1.78.206.4
As an aside..... my phone completely randomly played about 15 seconds of music this morning (sounded like a monastry) for no reason at all as far as I can tell. Not a reminder, Not an alarm, Not a notification or any App I have downloaded, Not email .... Absolutely no idea !!! Hilarious !!!
Happy HTC'ing.....

Add me to the list. Just upgraded to HTC One S for a colleague and the same problem. We are in a variable signal area so our phones are constantly moving between networks and the home button problem happens a lot. Within the 7 day so vodafone are sending us a new one tomorrow but having read this am now requesting a Galaxy S2.

As for me, I went on WCDMA-only for about a week, had no issues. Installed the OTA software update (last Friday?) and switched back to GSM/WCDMA auto, and touch wood have had no problems since.
My software number says 1.78.161.2 if that helps. Android 4.0.3 Sense 4.0

Hi all,
signed up here to add my voice to all the others experiencing this problem. Annoying. I found a YouTube video of a French guy demonstrating the problem, in case it's of use to the tech guys:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfzBbMPHqjE&feature
Sort it out please HTC, this is pretty shoddy.

Hi wittip, that video is a good find. Shame it doesn't show the zooming in and out of the home screen but it definitely adds weight to the problem.
HTC actually called me yesterday as I'd responded to their customer satisfaction survey with less than glowing remarks, due mostly to the complete lack of communication from them since I reported the issue a month ago. Apparently it's still under investigation etc etc. The guy asked if I could take a video of the problem and send it in, however so far this fourth phone has been fine (fingers crossed!) so I can't do that. I did however point him towards this thread (this was just before the youtube link was posted) and said that there are any number of people here who would be able to provide him with a video. Apparently this suggestion involved just a bit too much common sense however and I was told the video would have to be from me only, as the case he's investigating relates only to me. It sounds like they are investigating each report of this issue independent of any other reports, rather than having one joined-up investigation going for everyone. Kudos for having one of the most inefficient methods of troubleshooting user issues I've ever come across HTC.
Lee - I understand the position Vodafone takes with this but can you let us know what temporary replacement phone would be provided should any of us send our phone in for repair? Or are we expected to be without a phone for the duration?

I'm on my 2nd handset due to poor signal reception, and now the think has developed this fault. Goes bonkers swicthing screens and locks out. Only when I lock it and then unlock it can I carry on suing the dam thing.
HTC really need to recognise and accept that many users are experiencing such problems.
Suppose I'll have to see what my local store will do now. I'm certainly beginning to regret upgrading from a very reliable HTC Desire to the HTC One S now.

Sorry I meant to post this sooner, but I did manage to video the problem before I exchanged my phone. You can view it here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEKwMkuisqE
I know it won't help you with HTC danmink99, but I think it illustrates the problem quite well if anyone is interested.

Apologies for the lack of focus - I took the video on my tablet which I still haven't quite sussed out yet!
In this instance, the task switcher button remained active but the other two buttons were disabled.
I emailed HTC about the problem and got back an email basically asking questions which I'd already answered in my initial email. This video will be sent to them too.
HTC - Brilliantly Disappointing.

Dear All,
Literally about to embark on my own "smartphone" voyage...and finally decided upon the HTC One S (because I have kids and I think the camera will be great)...but now I'm full of fear.
Please, please let me (and I'm sure "us") all know the out come of all this, if you can...
Is it resolved yet? Is it going to be...?
Not being to technical, Ithough that, in genearl, "updates" fix these sorts of issues....?
Many thanks - I'm on the edge of my seat here....
Thanks

Hi everyone
Thank you for your posts.
I understand that this has caused frustration and it is greatly appreciated that you have provided us with the information and your videos.
danmick99 - if your handset is covered under insurance you can receive a loan device, unfortunately this is dependant on the devices the store has and I am therefore unable to advise specifics.
Please take the device to your local store and one of our experts will be able to take a look and advise you of your best options or alternatively we can arrange a postal repair.
Many Thanks
