Re: Home screen button problem

@doozer999 short answer is, no-one seems to know at the moment, unfortunately.

My handset has just gone 10 days without fitting, have used it extensively in that time too, switching between all data types. This afternoon happened once between 3G/HSDPA.

I can safely say, if this phone didn't have this problem, it would be hands down awesome. And most of the time, it is. Fingers crossed it's a software fix.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your posts here.

At the moment we are struggling to replicate this issue however, so that we can look at this for you I need one person who would be willing to let us use their phone for testing.

If you are interested in this please let me know and I will then speak with you directly.

James

Adding my voice to this same issue.

I've had exactly the same behaviour a couple of times in the last few days, just like this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEKwMkuisqE

Turn the screen on, all seems fine then the screen zooms out and in repeatedly and the 3 buttons are unresponsive.

Only happens when NOT in WiFi range and not on 3G or HDPSA.  In fact I just disabled WiFi and it happened immedialtely after.

Turned to WCDMA Only mode, all fine.

Re: Home screen button problem

I have a call open with HTC on this matter. They've asked me to change the SIM - Has anyone else tried this? It means a trip to the vodafone shop for me as I don't know anyone else with a vodafone microsim. Thing is, the microsim in the phone is brand new too - I got it when I bought the phone as my old Desire took the full size sim. One thing I do remember is that there were different microsim cards - Apple seem to have their own type. Is there only one other type or are there multiple 'standards'?

Re: Home screen button problem

I have bought a HTC  ONE S in Vodafone Spain and I have the same problem as you have in the forum. And I do not know if changing the phone or this will be a software problem that HTC fix

Re: Home screen button problem

Zoesdad - that's an interesting suggestion from HTC, although in reality since this problem is only affecting this model they can't really take the line that the sim cards are at fault. Also, I'm using the same microsim on this fourth phone as I was on the first two that had the problem, and this phone has been fine so far for three weeks. Can't really blame them for trying to pin it on anything other than the phone itself but they're going to have to face facts sooner or later.

Re: Home screen button problem

I can't think it will be the sim either. I've now got a One X, but using the same sim that was in my problem One S, and I have never had the problem on this model (battery life is pretty shocking though).

Re: Home screen button problem

Needless to say there is no change now I have my new microsim card. I wasn't actually expecting any but it was something HTC needed doing before they would proceed with the call. In my eyes this is the equivalent of the old remedy for pc problems, namely 'Have you swtiched it off and on again?'

There are definately differing degrees of the problem: I've had a singal buzz from the vibrator in the phone and it kicks me out to the home screen; I've had it bounce back and forth a few times until I press the power button; I've had several instances of a major fit where pressing the power button results in a screenshot being taken. So in effect the phone may be thinking the home button is being pressed and also thing the volume down button is being pressed. I've mentioned this in my latest update to HTC.

So, we'll see what HTC come up with now. I'll keep you all posted.

Re: Home screen button problem

Just a warning, I wouldn't bother to send your phone into Vodafone to 'get fixed' as they will send it back to you stating they put 'new software on it, and if any other problems were mentioned- we fixed those too.' Sent this dreaded phone in to get fixed and returned doing the exact same problems as before. Now looking into sending it to HTC... but I am sure I will have the same issue. Apparently it is only certain handsets that are having these problems. From my experience thus far, no one knows what the problem is- everyone at every store or Vodafone person I have talked to knows 'nothing about it', etc. The only people who seem to know about it are the people on this forum.

Vodafone can more than willingly take my phone for testing as long as I get sent a new one. Well, that is before HTC gets it. Errr!

Re: Home screen button problem

HTC is now requesting I send the phone directly to them. Going to try that and see what happens.

Anyone know anything about an upgrade/change to a different type of phone approx 1 month after purchase and in contract? (I should have gone with the iphone like I thought). I am getting sick of dealing with this phone. I feel like today it got even worse. Signal has been absolute rubbish, internet was basically down all day today, and the phone kept 'freezing' as it changed signal on a bus ride out of the city. I am not downloading apps, etc so I know it isn't that.  I just don't know what to do with it anymore... I have a phone that does not work and am being forced to carry both this useless handset and my old blackberry everywhere.

Like coppolaj, I too have been asked to send the phone to HTC. I'm a wee bit perturbed by my contact with HTC; They keep asking questions which I've already answered.

I will be sending the phone off: If it is still the same on its return, then as far as I can tell I am still within my rights to reject the phone and ask Vodafone for a refund.

Re: Home screen button problem

You can add me (well, my wife) to the list for this problem. We are on holiday in a poor signal area, so it may be signal related. She doesn't remember it happening at home while on WiFi or in 3G area. Most irritating. It's almost constant now, and rendering the phone virtually unusable. Come on Vodafone/HTC. This is a serious issue which not a lot seems to have been done about in over a month since someone first reported it.

Re: Home screen button problem

Hi Guys,

I understand that this issue is frustrating however we still have not had anyone who is willing to let us use their phone for testing.

Without this we are unable to get any further in regards to a resolution, if anyone would like to step up to the plate please let us know.

If we can get one phone that has the issue we will then be able to see exactly what is happening and feed the details back to HTC directly, if you have concern a about being without a phone, you don’t need to worry as this will be sorted for you.

James

James: My phone's just been sent to HTC where it will probably meet up with copplaj's phone. From my dealings so far with HTC, I'm not holding out much hope that the fault has been recorded properly. Certainly in my emails to them I kept getting asked for the same information and asked 'have you tried xxx' when I'd already given them this info.

So, if my phone comes back and is still the same, I'll certainly be willing to let you and your techs have a look, as long as I can get the loan of something decent in the meantime - I'm back to using my old Nokia 6100 for the meantime and keep look for the headphone socket!

Just to restate my question though: If the phone come back from HTC and/or vodafone wih the problem remaining, my understanding is that I can reject the phone as it is not fit for purpose. Can you confirm this please?

Re: Home screen button problem

Not sure how many you're upto with this, but I have the exact same problem. Can fathom any reason for what it triggering it. Took the phone into store and they suggest HTC Sync to make sure software was upto date, but it is only out the box 3 weeks and there are no updates available. Frustrating.

Re: Home screen button problem

Happy for my phone to be used as a guinea pig.

Only happens in low signal areas when the phone is in GSM / WCDMA Auto mode.

WCDMA only does not exhibit this issue.

Doesn't happen when connected via WiFi.

Seems to be an interference issue when switching between low 2G and 3G signals.  The touch buttons become unresponsive and mimic presses sending the homescreens to fly in and out.

Not dissimilar to when GSM phones buzz over a speaker and change the volume of my iPod "Classic" touchwheel.

Re: Home screen button problem

Guys, i just had a chat with a support-lady from HTC, this is a known problem. They are developing a solution for this problem, but she couldn't tell me when this fix will be ready. She toled me everybody who has this problem should report to HTC to increase the preassure for the fix. Greets, **Jürgen**

http://www.htc.com/de/contact/

This is the german link, just relace the de to your country. There you can mail, chat or call them.

She also told me that this is most possibly not a hardware issue, so that is good news :smileywink:
