ONE X Upgrade Please advise a numpty.

Hi everyone, I have a BB Bold 9700 and now due for an upgrade.

I've hated every minuite of the Blackberry and have longed for a touch screen smartphone like an HTC.

Now I think I've been offer a fair deal on an HTC ONE X in White but as its new on the market I dont know anything about it and was rather hoping you intellectual people on here could advise me and show me the light as it were.

I have to sign up for another two years so need to make the right choice as like I said I hated the Blackberry from the start so dont want to make another bad mistake.

ALSO whats peoples opinions on phone insurance please??, I've looked about as much as I can see and 95% of insurance for mobile phones are rubbish with insurers always finding ways to aviod paying out.

The best cover looks like Vodafones one at £9.99 a month though rather costly.

But anyone know if they're service is good as I've never claimed before and want to know that if I ever need too then I'd get a good honest service.

Sorry for the long winded waffle, hope you can all advise and help.

Regards Zaffy

Re: ONE X Upgrade Please advise a numpty.

Hi Zaffy,

Firstly welcome to the forum, I'm sure we can get you the answers you need.

I think all you could want to know about the HTC One X can be found  here and here.

There are some great thoughts and opinions from our very own Level 9 Mentorthesoupdragon.

Did you have any specific questions about the handset?

As for insurance it's always recommended for a high value handset. Fortunatly i've never had to claim on mine so i'm probably not the best person to ask. One thing to stay away from is general insurance companies who bundle mobile phone cover with other services (on a bank account for example) They tend to take quite a while to replace your handset. I believe Vodafon will replace your handset where possible next working day.

Re: ONE X Upgrade Please advise a numpty.

Thankyou for your reply,

I read your links and loved the report from Ben but the post on the other links were rather scarey.

The flickering issue is a worry, I just want a quality reliable phone with all the latest features, maybe I want too much lol.

Ive been offered a deal of £26 as long as I pay £60 for the hand set which I cannot affod,  I was pleased with £26 a month as that would enable me to afford the £9.99 insurant too so would be great but I'm hoping that if Icall them tomorrow (man didnt call me back as promised earlier!?), then hopefully they can do something about the £60handset fee.

My wife and I have been with VF for many many years and we are both needing to upgrade asap and are willing to do 24 month contract so fingers crossed.

Reading lots of the post, there seem to be some mega technical people on here helping out which I think is great- Bless You.

Ive also been offered in my deal 600mins and unlimited VF to VF free calls and 1 GB of internet, which I'm told would be plenty for me. My main useage would be surfing and emails and pictures and music.

With that in mind I'm desparate for the beats earphones.

Thoughts and advice please.

Regards Zaffy.

Re: ONE X Upgrade Please advise a numpty.

Zaffy,

I don't think a reliable phone phone with the latest features is too much to ask for. Remember all HTC phones carry a full 2 year manufacturing guarantee so you are covered in the unfortunate event that one of the issue affects you.

£26 a month is an amazing deal! I don't think you will get a free handset, the cheapest tariff to include it free is £42 a month, you never know + there is no harm in asking. Which department is it your dealing with?

There are a lot of us technical folks on here ready and waiting to help out if you do ever come across any issues.:smileyhappy:

1GB is more than enough for you. I class myself as a moderatly heavy user and i'm on 750MB and i have yet to go over my allowance. Remember the phone had WiFi built in so if you have it you can use wifi at home, at work and there are a lot of pubs and restaurants give free access.

Finally dont forget about Vodafone Data Test  Drive. This gives you unlimited data for the first 3 months of your contract allowing you to find your feet regarding how much you actually use without having to worry about huge bills.

Re: ONE X Upgrade Please advise a numpty.

Well a nice lady called me, though she could'nt do the deal I had already been offered and said I would have to call customer retentions which I promptly did.

Both my wife and I have now signed up for another two year contract.

The Deal,

Free HTC ONE X handset in white

600 Anytime minuites

Unlimited Texts

1 gb Internet

2 gb BT Hotspots

Unlimited data for first three months

unlimited Vodafone to Vodafone calls

Beats earfones.

And the mothly cost?, £31 all in, minus Vodafones NHS discount reduces the cost to £24.80.

Though we have both chosen to add the Vodafone insurance costing £9.99 making the total monthly cost £34.79!!! And we are delighted.

Everything will be delivered by courier tomorrow and then I think I have to register the mini sim's then I will have to register my details on a certain Vodafone link together with my employee payroll number so that my discount gets added to both our accounts.

All in all very happy though though to be honest I'm a little apprihensive about registering everything for our accounts and setting up our phones.

Guess you all are gonna be "bugged" often and I do hope you all have a sense of humour and lots and lots of patience, lol.

Thanks everyone for support so far,

Regards Zaffy.

Re: ONE X Upgrade Please advise a numpty.

I've just been reading a few pages of posts and they vertually all describe how difficult it is too get the  NHS discount,

anybody here had problems or successes and have any advice.
