Warranty with vodafone after unlock

Hi Guys

Can someone confirm what your policy would be on warranty should i choice to unlock my bootloader using the htcdev official method.  HTC states doing this will void some of your warranty do you have the same stance on this.  As i have a requirement to run a number of official android apps from the playstore which dont work as HTC have locked the bootloader.  I find it unacceptable that i have to waiver my warranty on a device just so i can use standard android apps.  Im actually close to thinking this device was sold unfit for purpose if im unable to run the required apps i purchased this phone for.

Thanks

Gavin

Re: Warranty with vodafone after unlock

But the handset IS fit for purpose, when you've used them in the past you've also lost your warranty technically so unlocking the bootloader now doesn't change that...it just means HTC know you've done it!

It's the same with the unbranded handsets too

Re: Warranty with vodafone after unlock

EddyOs is right, you will void your warranty if you unlock your bootloader. I am pretty sure that these sections taken from the HTC website cover it:
Failure of the customer to follow the instructions properly as per the manual. Failure to upgrade the software as per procedures outlined in network operator’s web site. Downloading ilegal or incompatible software to the handset.

The handset is fit for purpose as it does not require any of the software you have mentioned to run

Re: Warranty with vodafone after unlock

Hi Guys

This is not correct with my HTC Desire i had the ability to run these apps and kept my warranty in tact this is proven by the fact i sent in my old HTC Desire with a cyanogenmod rom on it and repairs were carried out and sent back with the same ROM in place.  This was a hardware fault that was no way caused by the changing of the software.  I purchased the phone for various reasons including the ability to run these selected apps just because the phone has android doesnt mean its fit for purpose.  I could have android on there without and have an issue making calls as it runs android is that still fit for purpose being that its a phone?????

Re: Warranty with vodafone after unlock

That was the Desire, and HTC have changed their stance on warranty since it was released. Now, if you have a non-standard ROM on the phone, they'll send it back unfixed regardless of what caused the issue.

Those apps require a non-standard version of the HTC ROM and, as such, it's technically void of a warranty

Go read the quite lengthy threads on XDA and you'll see the issues people are having with the One X with regards to getting HTC to honour the warranty on a One X with an unlocked bootloader

Re: Warranty with vodafone after unlock

the phone is totally fit for purpose, with those list of apps you want to run custom roms which isnt what the phone is built for 95% of people who own one.
some of that list there are alternatives which dont require root. why do you want to use shootme when then phone has built in screenshot capability?
