htc one x phones4u/vodafone £36 12 month deal question

[ Edited ]

hi i was just looking on phones4u and vodafones site you both have this deal but vf charge £199 for the handset and its free at phones4u; i spoke to your online chat and he told me a few things what i dont think are true i will post the transcript here and im hoping a mod will either back what he says or disagree which i think you will cheers

Divyanshu: Hello, you're chatting with Divyanshu, one of Vodafone's online sales specialists.  May I take your name please?
You: hi its  phones4u do the htc 1 x on a 12 month contract 36£ for free on vodafone why is it £199 for the handset here
Divyanshu: hello
Divyanshu: phones4u is the thrid party service provider, with whom Vodafone shares its network and charge them for that, but the prices and plans are their own, Vodafone has nothing to do with that
You: ok fair enough i will order direct from phones4u but your not very competitive for such a large brand as vodafone
You: phones4u are just a broker they are not a network provider so dont really have their own plans they are vodafones
Divyanshu: they sell their phones on their prices sharing with Vodafone network, and any service related issues would be taken care of by them only, Vodafone would not be liable for that
You: ok so do my bills come direct from phones4u then or vodafone?
Divyanshu: bills would be direct from phones4u
You: ok i will look into what you have said in more detail thankyou

I have my contract from CPW and deal with Vodafone directly - you'd be the same. All P4U do is get the contract

I called Vodafone direct (new customer) and they matched the phones 4 u deal of £36 p/m over 12 months with no upfront cost.

Re: htc one x phones4u/vodafone £36 12 month deal question

You will be billed by Voda even if you take contract out from 4u...simply put, they get paid "a commission" for every tariff they sell and use this commission to further discount the handset, and can source handsets from different suppliers to get possibly better cost prices etc...

If you have a bill/network query you come to Vodafone, if you have a handset problem you need to deal with 4u as thats their responsibility

As 365 has replied, you will be billed by Vodafone who will continue to be responsible for the contract part of the agreement but any handset problem, its back to the point of purchase.

Re: htc one x phones4u/vodafone £36 12 month deal question

Hi treble3,

Apologies for the delay in answering, we're a small team and very popular at the moment :smileywink:

Between the guys who've posted on this thread it's been pretty much summed up - if you take a contract from a third party such as Phones 4U, they supply the hardware and we supply the connection to the network, along with the billing.

This means that you come to us for any questions around your bill or the network and any issues with the handset get dealt with by the retailer who supplied it (Phones 4U in this instance)

Unfortunately I think the agent you spoke to on webchat got his wires a little crossed, and I'll feed this back to him for future reference, don't worry :smileyhappy:

If you'd like to see what we can offer you for the HTC One X, there's a PM on the way to you now - follow the instructions on contacting us and we'll give you a call for a chat about your options :smileywink:

You can find your PM inbox here

Paul

Re: htc one x phones4u/vodafone £36 12 month deal question

To Be honest, I wouldnt touch p4u with a sterilised barge pole if your buying a phone.

Their telesales team will hound you to the grave to get insurance on the phone and tell you blatent lies about any insurance you may already have.

They also hand your number/contact details to other third parties so you will get hounded by them too.

Whenever I have had phones from them, always had greif from marketting companies, yet when I bought from Voda direct, never had an issue. Yes, the right box on the contract was ticked.

Always better to deal with the network direct, even if slightly more expensive, although 99% of the time, with perserverance they will price match.

Unless you want an unbranded handset, in which case go to CPW
