Re: 2.2.1 Update Error

Hi guys,

Can you confirm the handset you're trying to update for me?

Please keep in mind that if the software is not a Vodafone update then this may not install on a branded handset.

Re: 2.2.1 Update Error

@gill-t

My advice... DO NOT upgrade to 2.2.1...!!!!

It will kill your Phone!

Just search the forum for HTC Magic and you will see many unhappy customers with phones that are next to useless because of the update.

Basically there were 2 versions of this phone. The 32A, which was Google branded and the 32B which was Vodafone branded.

The 32B had less System memory than the 32A. The FroYo 2.2.1 update uses too much of the 32B's System memory and causes the phone to freeze, slow down and burn through the battery in a very short amount of time.

Do yourself a favour, DO NOT UPDATE...!

Hi gill-t,

To be honest I’m not too sure about this one however I know one of our Community Experts TSD will be able to assist you with your query.

@ TSD, any ideas on this one?

Re: 2.2.1 Update Error

Hi James and gill-t

You can roll back to Firmware version 1.6 Donut Vodafone UK.

you will need the RUU (Rom Update Utility)

HTC Sync - PC software (for Drivers)

USB cable for the Phone.

RUU_Sapphire_Vodafone_UK  (Click on the BLUE download button)

HTC Sync

Install HTC Sync before attempting the update!

Then run the RUU and follow the on-screen instructions. You will need to put the phone into FastBoot mode.

(from OFF - press and hold the Back button + Power button for several seconds)

I have done this and it does work!

I rolled back from 2.2.1 to 1.6 without any problems at all

Remember to Factory Reset after the Update!!!
