2.2 updage step 1 fails

Hello

I'm having problems with applying the 2.2 update on my VF HTC Magic. Having looked around the forum, it is similar to other's problems but I've not managed to fix it yet - i'm stuck on 1.5

Back in Dec, my 1.6 phone received the update notification.

I hit "install" and the phone reboots. It just sits on the red vodafone splashscreen. Even if it's plugged in, it's aparrantly only using battery power and will sit there until the battery dies. When I reboot it, the update didn't apply, infact i'm now on version 1.5.

The "system update" in settings can't see the update, it says it's up to date. I perform a hard reset to fix this (that is: power off, hold home and back, power on, 3 androids on the bottom, hit trackball, hit green button).

Phone starts up, welcome tutorials etc. I'm on 1.5. I get the update notification (stage 1 of 2) , I hit "install"... I just get the red screen again.

I'm now going round and round, stuck on 1.5. I've not got past stage 1 of the update. If i try to apply it, I just get red splash screen. Then the phone thinks its up to date. I can always do a hard reset to get back to 1.5 so it can see the update, but it just fails again.

I've tried this with formatted sd cards, no sd card, reset device, but It's always the same. I've seen someone post files to do the update manually but says I need to be on stock 1.6.  I've not tried this because I'm on 1.5.

I've not installed any custom roms or rooted the phone or anything. Any ideas?

Rob

Hi rob_t

Welcome to the eForum :smileyvery-happy: it is always good to see new faces on here.

I am sorry to see that you are having difficulties in updating the firmware on the phone, I can understand that this is very frustrating.

It does look like you have covered everything that I would of recommended, so thanks for all of the effort that you have put in so far.

The only thing that I can now recommend is to send the phone away for repair. The phone will then get flashed to the latest firmware and will return to you updated.

You can see here all of the information around the repair process

If you have any further questions please let me know :smileyvery-happy:

Can you provide another link? That one goes nowhere...

Is the replair process likely to cost?
