I've been asked to gather a little more information concerning this issue.
There's now a staged rollout of Gingerbread for the Desire HD. Has anyone received this firmware update, and if so, have you had any instances of the SMS issue occur after the update?

I'm really sorry to hear this. I have never experienced this on my Desire.
Do you use the stock Android messaging app or a third party app?
I use a third party app and this may help to alleviate the problem until you get the update.
You could always try the checkin service the Android offers; simply open your dialler and type *#*#2432546#*#*
Once the code has registered, in the notifications bar you'll see a message stating that the checkin has been successful.

I must admit that I’ve not seen this issue around in a while an thought that it had been resolved.
Can you confirm exactly what phone you are using and what software it is running?
The reason I ask is that if you are on an old version of software there may be an update that will stop this from happening again, in the meantime I would look at the SMS backup services to see if this can help you stop losing your messages again.

Recieved a text and noticed all my texts were gone including all my drafts and entire inbox
The only messages i really cared about are the 70-odd locked to sim texts i saved from someone dear to me. They meant a very lot and i was really upset to discover they'd disappeared after id tried to prevent that from happening. I really hope i can get them back as they hold a lot of sentiment and memories.
Can you actually answer whether there is any way i can get these texts back?
I may be sad or whatever but i cried when i noticed them all gone, then got very angry!!

Thank you for your post and I am sorry to see that this has caused you frustration.
Have you tried your SIM in another device to see if they have remained on the SIM?
I am unsure as to why your messages would have been deleted, have you downloaded any apps recently?
Please can you back up all of your contacts, we have some great step by step guides to assist you in our Help Centre, all you need to do is select the make and model of your device, and perform a hard reset,
- Switch the handset on
- Whilst powered up, remove the SIM card and battery
- Put the battery back in and switch on
- Wait a couple of minutes, then remove the battery again
- Replace the SIM and battery and switch back on
It may be a fault wit the device, please take the device to your local store and one of our experts will be able to take a look and advise you of your best options or alternatively we can arrange a postal repair.

- Did you read any of the advice from DaveCD?
- What phone are you using?
- Have you tried a factory reset?
- Have you downloaded any apps that coincided with the loss of the messages?
I'm sorry but the messages will have been lost unless you have them backed up somewhere.
