Contacts went missing from phone book.

I have a HTC wildfire S phone, last night my contacts disappeared from phonebook, some returned some havent, also did see a symbol appear next to signal,battery etc like a circle made of two arrows.

That is the Synchronise icon.

Are your contacts sync'd from Gmails contacts?

goto settings > accounts & Sync > click on your Gmail address to sync the account. (must be connected to 3g or WiFi)
