Here's a few issues I'm experiencing with my N1, & just wondered whether or not other's have experienced or are experiencing these issues:
1. Gallery - Very slow to load when trying to view photos, & often recent photos don't appear. Restart of phone sometimes helps, but not always. I had over 100 photos & a few videos store on the phone, so decided to delete 40-50% of these to see if the sheer number of media files was the issue, but it didn't help.
2. Overall the phone appears to be freezing more often over the past 1-2 months. Phone is running the latest generic release of Android.
3. Phone not being recognised by my Vista based laptop - The laptop makes the notification noise when the phone is plugged in & USB storage is turned on, but the phone doesn't appear under removable storage, or any other area within 'Computer/My Computer' for that matter.
3. This is more of a query, but where would I find the photos I've saved from MMS messages when I select to save to SD? I can't seem to find them anywhere when browsing through the phone via my PC & Mac.
Feel free to discuss...

Afternoon all - It's been a while.

Points one and two sound like memory or performance issues, I wonder if any applications or background processes are affecting your performance. Browsing the phone gallery rates pretty high in terms of memory consumption, especially the act of rendering each image, so I'm definitely leaning towards some sort of memory issue.
Point 3 is a strange one and it seems is occurring on both Vista and Windows 7, wondering if it's a driver issue. We will need to let the thread continue and see how many other users are affected in the same way, the unfolding discussion may also bring to light a few tips and workarounds.
As for the MMS images location, are you able to browse to these on the phone itself? And in the folder structure (when browsing via PC) there may be a folder named images as well as Pics/pictures or gallery.

With regards to the MMS location, I'm also struggling to find them directly through my phone. When plugged into a PC/Mac I'd expect the photos to appear within the 'DCIM', 'Download', or 'Media' folders, or even directly within the main root of the memory card, but photos appear nowhere. I'm starting to think that maybe the phone isn't saving the photos at all?
Tried using ASTRO (free version) to browse for the photos, but to no avail.

Uninstall Advanced Task Killer, you don't need a task killer on any phone from Android 2.1 onwards.
Why would that be? Several established users on here swear by task killers & their effectiveness.
In my opinion the built in task killer option isn't as versatile as some offered from the marketplace.

If you are having problems with your phone and the way it's running I'd try uninstalling Advanced Task Killer for a couple of days and see how things go.

I'll uninstall Advanced Task Killer & let you know how it goes.
On a separate note, is it possible to 'one touch root' the N1? I've unlocked the bootloader & installed the generic firmware on my N1, but just curious as to how difficult it is to root, as there seems to be many benefits from having a rooted phone. Does it void your warranty with HTC?
Cheers.

If you're on FRF91 then there is a one click root app that works all on the phone, if you're on FRG83 then there is a one click root app that works via your PC.
As you have an unlocked bootloader, you could always flash a custom recovery and install a root update.zip, or (I believe) that once you have a custom recovery you can install the SU stuff straight from the market. Probably not as simple as the one click options.

What key benefits have you noticed since rooting?

Key benefits? Not all that much really as mine is still the stock FRG83 but with root. I can take screen shots and clear the cache at a touch which is mostly what I use it for. Not bothering with a custom ROM as the next iteration of Android should be arriving short(ish)ly.

Might wait for Gingerbread, although not sure what features will be included (other than it being tablet PC orientated), & unsure whether it will be released as 2.3 or 3.0
