Hi.  The wife has had her HD2 for nearly 18 months but has long since had a problem with text messages staying in her outbox and not being sent.  We called Vodafone who kindly sent a new SIM card.  This worked for a very short time but she's now back to the same problem.  When she is successful at sending a text all those in her outbox then go (could be weeks old and no longer relevant). 

I'm sure this isn't operator error and wonder if it's a software glitch?  Has anyone else managed to overcome this problem?

She is due for upgrade soon and hopefully the new phone won't have this problem but if it's due to Vodafone software which is presently going in the Samsung Galaxy S2 ................................................................................................

Thanks for your post here. I'm sorry to hear that your wife is having this issue. I appreciate how frustrating this must be for you.

When the messages get stuck in the outbox, does the phone have signal? Is it 2G or 3G?

Have you noticed if this happens in different locations or in one particular place?

What happens if you switch the phone off and on? Do they then send?

We've been through those options before and I am afraid that it doesn't help.  There is signal.  It's in different locations  and we have tried switching the phone off and on - even removing the battery and replacing.  Nothing seems to make a difference.

I had the same problem when I got my HTC HD2, it was nothing to do with the SIM etc, it was fixed by an update available from the HTC Support website.

Jebus thanks for that advice.  I have tried to download but failed.  I think I need my son to have a go as he is much better equipped to know what he is doing.  Will get back after seeing him at the weekend to let you know how we got on.

Jebus I'm afraid that my son failed to download that as well.  something wasn't compatible - and he's an IT graduate!

The problem came back today.  The wife has H showing as in HSPA.  She couldd make calls but not send any SMS messages. Tonight I moved the phone and send a message.  It, and all the others, went.  I noted that 3G was showing.  Are you saying that she can't send messages unless it says 3G?  I am really confused as I thought if there was a signal to use the phone then you could also send and receive SMS.

Many thanks for getting back to us.

Please can you confirm what software you are running?

The reason I ask is that as stated above, there was an update that should have fixed this issue a while ago, can I ask if you have ever updated the software on this handset?

If you are unable to install the update yourself then I would advise sending this off to our repair centre free of charge under the warranty of the device, this way we can get one of our engineers to flash the software for you.

 Is there no updates available for you ota?

Shipped Roms might have the latest for your phone. 

What version firmware does your phone have on it and is it Vodafone branded? If it was supplied and it had Htc's Generic unbranded firmware on it you will need their latest not Vodafones.

The short answer is that I haven't got a clue but this is the software info

OS version 5.2.21869

ROM Version 1.48.405.2

ROM date 11/18/09

We got the phone via vodafone on upgrade in January 2009.

Any advice appreciated as the wife is getting really mad

Thanks for updating us with your ROM version.

This is a launch ROM that we updated some time ago now. The update will fix this issue.

Please follow the link to the Software Updates page, select HTC from the list and then get updating

Please excuse my silly question but should I download all the ROM updates for the HD2 on vodafone?  If I get problems would a VF store do this for me?

I had the same problem some time ago with the HD2.  This prompted me to ditch it and get an iphone 4 in June last year.  You say you got it in Jan 2009, however the device was actually released in autumn 2009 (bought mine in Nov 2009 1 week after release), so I think you mean you got it in Jan 2010?  Anyway mine was from Vodafone too and it also was unable to send SMS like yours.  Unfortunately as these are VF "branded" handsets we were not allowed to download the HTC software fixes directly from HTC so I had to wait til Jan 2010 to download the update after VF released it (well after HTC).  Anyway it still had a few bugs in it and I found WM 6.5 unusable so I got an iphone 4 in June 2010 (negotiated an early upgrade).  

If you download the most recent ROM software update from VF this should solve the issue, but remember to backup you phone and contacts before doing this.  Oh and congrats for staying with the phone for this long!

Just to finish this one off.  So we went to download the update but it said that I couldn't with my Serial Number.  My son spoke to the live HTC help and they said we could download.  That has now been done and all is well.
