HTC HD2 - ROM Upgrade Notification

Hello all, I need some help.....

Just recently upgraded my HD2 to the new 1.72 ROM.... everything is a lot better with the handset, it rarely crashes or freezes etc....

HOWEVER...... each time I send a SMS I get a REALLY ANNOYING notification noise and alert.... I don't want this!

So I emailed VF to ask for advice... I received the following reply

Hi,I'm sorry that you are facing problems with the handset software.

if the delivery report is kept off, you should not be receiving the delivery report.

You may certainly contact the handset manufacturer for this functioning error.

They will investigate it further.

Alternatively, you may re-download the software to see if this problem still persist.

Trust the above information helps and sort the issue for you.

Kind regards,

Rajinder Singh Virdi

Vodafone Customer Services

.... I then contacted HTC and they said....

Thank you for contacting us. In regards to notification I can help you with that. After looking into this i have found out that this notification cant be turned off. It is a change that was applied on the latest vodafone rom. If you are not happy about this notification appearing everytime then i would advise letting vodafone know so they can keep count as if they get enough complaints they may remove this feature. I trust that this resolves your query, please do not hesitate to contact us again if required. Thank you for contacting HTC. Best regards, Terry S HTC

..... so i then contacted VF (getting a bit fed up at this point) and I received the following.....

You need to follow the below steps to stop the delivery messages:

Scroll across to settings, then menu
Select All Settings
Then select sounds and notifications
Then you should have the option to turn the sound off and i believe if you select notifications at the bottom you can also stop the message symbol.

if still you're facing difficulties, you can chat with our eforums advisor, by clicking here.

Alternatively, you can
call our Technical team on 191, select option 2 and 2, as they are the best people who handles network queries.

Trust the above information helps.

Kind regards,

Shweta Bandekar
Vodafone Customer Services

.... so I tried what they advised, and disabled the notification sound function, and yes... the sound of the notification has stopped, along with every other notification the phone has ... which is useless as I only want this darn SMS thing stopped.... and NO, there is no way that I can see to stop the message symbol from appearing after each SMS.

CAN ANYONE HELP ME WITH THIS!!!??? PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPLEASE :-(

HTC HD2 - ROM Upgrade Notification

Hi hingy78

I can imagine how frustrating this is, I am sure I would never have text alerts on my handset.

I have a link here, if you follow the guild this should be able to help with this.

Please let us know how you get on with the outcome of this.

Martin,

The link you have offered would be fine if hingy78 hadnt mentioned that he has put 1.72 on the phone

quote> Just recently upgraded my HD2 to the new 1.72 ROM

Extract from HTC page:
Note: This update is only applicable to ROM versions less than 1.66.XXX.X.

HTC HD2 - ROM Upgrade Notification

I have an HTC TP2 and have a similar message that, at first. I could not get rid of.
I have downloaded "Advanced configuration" from XDA Developers site and it can be turned off using this handy little program.
I only left it turned off for a few hours then found myself checking to make sure the texts had been sent so turned it back on again.

The SMS Notification Sent thing is cooked into the ROM and the new stock HTC ones have it also - only way of getting rid of it is going custom

1000x better out the box, I think it's a vastly superior phone and best on the market...

Custom ROMs make the HD2 better but it's nothing on the Desire

HTC HD2 - ROM Upgrade Notification

When I had my old N97 in white from P4U it was all fine at first until VF weren't going to release their FW for it as it 'wasn't one of theirs' even though it had their FW on it originally so I kicked off that it wasn't fit for purpose as a lot of the bugs were sorted in the later FW version from Nokia...VF agreed to set my account to upgrade and I forgot about it until recently so got the Desire

HTC HD2 - ROM Upgrade Notification

Advise please.
I see that HTC have released the 1.72 ROM on their support site. for Vodaphone users, I am on 1.66 ROM at the moment. and quite happy with it, except for loss of reception on occasion. What does the HTC 1.72 give over 1.66 I am using a non branded phone and like it that way. this will be the third time I have reinstalled the Rom had loads of problems getting my emails to work last time just want to know if it's worth upgrading.

Thanks in advance. Dave M

Hi,

I was on 1.66 and asked the same question and didn't get a great response, the only thing i was told was that
the radio is higher thus giving better signal strength. I did upgrade to 1.72 from 1.66 and I would say the signal strength is definatly better but you do get notified of every text message you send which to some people seems to be annoying but for me it's nice to see that my messages have been sent. Not any other real probs with the new upgrade although I would say 1.66 did feel more solid. Up to you buddy? I for now am sticking with 1.72 and will wait for any new updates plus I can't be assed to go back and loose all the nice mods I have done Good luck!

Hi Bentley Boy

Id have to agree with Agent7's comments on the 2 Rom versions

That notification must be really annoying.

If the people who are suffering from this can paste their firmware version I will raise this for you all

Thanks

I attempted to download the 1.72 ROM on the HTC support site, entered the S/N number and told that the ROM is not available for my Phone, I was thinking that HTC were offering the update for non branded phones to take advantage of the better signal reception .

Albert, thanks for your reply, but the link you refer to confirms what I can't do and that is to upgrade the ROM from 1.66 to 1.72 on a non Vodaphone handset. HTC only offer 166 ROM at the moment.

I have been reliably informed by some of the guys at XDA-Developers that if you install this HTC hotfix it will revert your messaging client back to one that doesn't have this "undocumented feature"

The only non-vendor WWE (World Wide English) capable release of 1.72 is the Hong Kong one I believe.
You will likely have to source this ROM download from XDA-Devs as the downloads are SN locked.
The other way I believe you can get the VF 1.72 release onto your handset is using SSPL which ignores the Vendor ID's although I am not 100% sure, you can go have a read up on it from the XDA site.
