HTC Legend Crashing, leaving navigation buttons disabled and Ringer Volume maxed

Hi,
Can anyone help.
For a few months now I've been getting a really frustrating problem with my HTC Legend.
I'll be using it and all of a sudden it'll crash. What happens is that I'll either touch the screen or one of the navigation buttons and the Ringer Volume bar will suddenly appear on screen turned up to the maximum and then all the navigation buttons disable, so I can't get out of the app I'm in.
It's really frustrating. Sometimes it rectifies itself really quickly, other times it won't and I have to restart my phone, often when I have to do this, I get a 'Bootloader' screen and I have to wait 15 minutes and then turn my phone on again as that doesn't work either.
I've seen that other people have had this issue out there on the internet. I just can't find a solution.
Can someone please help as this is very annoying.
Regards,
Richard

Hi Rich_pop,
Welcome to the vodafone eforum from all of the team.
To be honest from what you have said it does sound like a fault with the handset and the software on it, the first thing that I would advise would be to send you handset away for a free of charge warranty repair.
Once this is done we will be able to see where the issue lies or if it can be resolved.

Hi James,
I've not sent the phone in yet for free of charge warranty repair. The reason being it will leave me without a phone for a few weeks.
Therefore, can I ask a couple of question before I do,
- If I tried a factory reset of my phone to see if it resolved the issue, would doing this invalidate the free of charge warranty repair?
- Is it possible to regress the Froyo update to android 2.1 as I think this maybe what has caused the problem.
Thanks,
Richard

Hi rich_pop,
Thanks for your additional questions.
I can confirm that a factory reset will not invalidate your warranty.
Secondly, we're unable to provide you with information on how to roll back your software version, however the forum may well be able to provide you with this information.
Cheers,
