HTC Legend - How do I unlock it if there's no trigger?

Hi

I have a NUC from VF to unlock my HTC legend. However, when I insert an orange sim into the handset there is no Unlock Code prompt. I tried putting in an O2 SIM to prompt the trigger but still does not appear. The phone isn't unlocked because when these two SIMs go into the phone there is a 'no service' message. These SIMs work perfectly fine in my old handset so I know its nothing to do with them.

Is my HTC faulty? (in all other aspects it works fine but it just won't unlock!!!!!)

normally a set of instructions come with NUC codes, as sometimes theres funky codes to input and stuff first, you could try making a call though, as that might prompt it? i am only guessing though

Hi

This is the instruction I received

1. Insert the SIM card that you wish to use in the handset.
2. Switch handset on.
3. Display will prompt to enter the Unlock Code.

Step 3 does not happen.

Your phone may not be locked (mine wasn't)

Try this..

pop one of your other sims in, go to menu, settings, wireless & networks, mobile networks, network operators and click select automatically to see if that makes any difference.

HTC Legend - How do I unlock it if there's no trigger?

Hi peach_blossom86,

I didn't think the Legend was locked in any way, so the advice here from ^Andy^ could well be all you need to do.

Let me know how you get on, and thanks to all that have contributed.

Cheers again,

Re: HTC Legend - How do I unlock it if there's no trigger?

I have the same issue. i tried the steps mentioned but when i hit select network automatically  i receive the notification 'Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network'. When I hit search networks I receive the message 'Error while searching networks' then there are no networks found. I still have no prompt for the unlock code.

Please help!

Hi elle,

I have checked and and have had confirmed that the only process needed to unlock the HTC Legend is to enter a Sim off another network and an automatic prompt should come up. If this doesn't happen, then that would suggest that the phone is already unlocked. Does the sim you are trying to use definitely work in another phone?

I have the same problem. Step 3 as above does not trigger a request for a network unlock code. My sim works in another phone but not my legend. I tried Andys suggestion but the only network it will find is VF. I tried a hard reset but that made no difference. No joy from my requests to VF technical support. All in all another reason why I will be leaving such a shoddy network operator on Monday. I doubt any moderator will give a sensible response to this so I assume my legend will have to become a doorstop.

Vodafone you seriously need to get a grip of your customer support issues....

Re: HTC Legend - How do I unlock it if there's no trigger?

Hi Tired Dave,

unfortunately I don't have a non vodafone SIM to use in the legend we have in the office to test this.

From what I can see the instructions above should work for you and if not then it would indicate it is already unlocked.

Although you have tried the SIM you want to use, are you able to try a different non vodafone SIM in the phone to make sure that it is simply not just an issue with the device picking up that SIM?

Other than this can you explain exactly what happens when you turn the device on with your non vodafone SIM in the phone?

If it recognises a SIM is in the phone but simply won't display any network other than Vodafone at the top I would advise trying the following;

Menu - Settings - wireless and networks - mobile networks - network operators - search networks - select desired network of your SIM.

Does this now show signal on the phone?

Re: HTC Legend - How do I unlock it if there's no trigger?

Hi James (and anyone), I am having the same problem and can confirm that the steps above do not allow me to unlock the phone.

TO summarise:

- I  have inserted an alternative SIM (which i know to be working) and I do not get a request to enter a PUK.

- I have tried manually selecting a network but none are shown

- I have searched the phone menus for another prompt to enter the PUK but no joy...

Has anyone solved this? I have the PUK from vodafone but they have not replied to an email requesy for help...

Thanks

Tom

Hi diametric,

Welcome to the Vodafone eForum from all of the team and many thanks for your post.

Unfortunately there isn't much more I can add as this point however I have emailed our Network Unlock Code (NUC) team to see if I can get some clarification as to why you aren't being prompted to enter the NUC when you put a non Vodafone UK SIM in the phone.

I will update the thread for you once I have more details on what we can do moving forward.
